DMC5: Special Edition was never worth it. The Disappointing Truth.

Special Edition was a huge demand on PC when it was first announced. But Capcom said it was only going to be on Modern Consoles (Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5). A lot of PC players were pissed and decided to review bomb the game on steam for a while.

I really wished Capcom made like some sort of “Special Edition upgrade” that charges us 30$ extra that includes the Vergil DLC, but after the Special Edition got released, I realised it was never worth it. The Special Edition was a huge disappointment. I played it with a friend on his Xbox Series X and I was not impressed by the expectations I had. Even if it had exclusive features like Turbo Mode, Legendary Dark Knight Difficulty, and Ray Tracing, it was still a huge letdown. Here are the reasons why:


1. Lack of Costumes:

Unlike other Special Editions, this one doesn’t have any costumes for your character to wear. I mean sure we have re-colours for the character, but that's nothing special compared to the costumes from the previous games. We had Dante dressed up like his Father Sparda, Vergil had a corrupt costume that can turn him into Nelo Angelo, Nero had a Beta Design as a costume. But seriously, they couldn’t make new costumes for the characters or better yet, bring back all of them?


2. No Original "Newly" made exclusive levels for Vergil’s Campaign:

Really embarrassing how the heavily hated DmC: Devil May Cry reboot that everyone in the DMC community sh*tted on managed to have an actual reboot Vergil DLC with his own levels (and exclusive enemies) which was done by Ninja Theory but the OG Devil May Cry devs at Capcom couldn't do the same. Why the absolute f*ck would they recycle the main story levels for Vergil's campaign? This was done 3 times now, DMC3:SE, DMC4:SE, and now DMC5: SE. It's funny how they gave Vergil a new Force Edge weapon (Mirage Edge) because "Canon", yet they give him Beowulf back and didn't make some level that explains how he got it back in the first place. It would have been cool if the Beowulf Boss came back. I am gonna assume what happened after Dante spoke to Nico and getting Kalina Ann 2, he used his Sin Devil Trigger to quickly fly back to the Devil May Cry shop, went to his armory and got Beowulf and flew back to the Qliphoth. Then, when he finally meets Vergil, he gives him his Beowulf because he wanted their fight to be more challenging and/or he wanted to have a fair fight with Vergil since he has more weapons than him and it would just be unfair n sh*t. Seriously, talk about lazy game development.


3. No Nero Boss Fight (and Dante Boss Fight in Bloody Palace):

The Final 2 missions of Vergil's campaign are having him fight Dante Twice. Yes, Both Mission 19 and 20 is having him fight Dante, and Dante again. I noticed that Nero was barley in Vergil’s campaign. Why was Nero skipped? Did they run out of budget to make a Nero Boss NPC? They couldn’t afford to re-hire Johnny Yong Bosch? Who knows? Its also disappointing that they didn’t add the Dante boss to Bloody Palace. Would have been Cool if we can fight Dante as Nero and V.


4. No Lady and Trish DLC:

I felt that Lady and Trish were kind of left out for the Special Edition. Playing as Both Lady and Trish was very amazing for DMC4:SE, but sadly, there are not Playable Characters in this game. Even though you can change their colour schemes, it's nothing special since it's just for cutscenes. I don't even know where the whole "Ladies Night DLC "leak came from, must have been fake news just for clout.


Conclusion:

In Conclusion, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition was never worth it. It felt incomplete. The review bombing outrage was never worth doing. This now feels like everyone on PC was demanding to have an incomplete Special Edition that was heavily rushed during development cause Capcom just wanted to make a quick buck out of the popularity and hype when the new consoles were announced even though at the same time, they refused money from PC gamers where they would not mind paying for a special edition upgrade. We may not get features like Turbo Mode, Legendary Dark Knight Difficulty, and Ray Tracing, but thank God we have modders to do that for us for free.

Just look at this. This is way better than the Special Edition that console players have. It even has the “Must Style” Option from DmC: Devil May Cry. For those who don’t know, “Must Style” is a mode that enemies can only take damage if your style gauge is at "S” or Higher. However, this mod allows you to change it to be lower if you like. Hell, it even has a “Legit Multiplayer Mode"!!! Something that Capcom couldn't do properly in the base game. Instead, we just have players recorded to assist us during the missions or something like that. We can even have costumes from previous games such as the Coatless Vergil costume mod and the Nelo Angelo Devil Trigger mod.

Guys, there is no need to get upset over this, the PC version is still better in every way. If some of you hard core fans still want the half- *ssed Special Edition, I feel sorry for you. In the Meantime, just install “SSSiyan's Collaborative Cheat Trainer” it’s the closest to the Special Edition that could have been.

Yes, it is underwhelming as all hell and the worst SE so far, but we didn't even get that. I don't want to rely on modders for game modes that should've been on PC from the very beginning as well.

ironically the only thing i dont like about ninja theory DmC is the fact the definitive version isnt on pc

Main thing why is i cant stand not having the option to use manual targetting.

For example target then towards enemy + devil arms attack to use stinger instead of having to double tap towards enemy then devil arms attack


i like DMC5 pc since it can be modded with LDK + turbo and use any character the whole game. shouldve been options in the main game from the start

Yeah really lazy, DMC 3 SE should have been the end of the "lets rehash the old levels but with a new charachter for fullprice" then they did it with DMC 4 and DMC 5 which is supposed to be the end of Dante & Vergil

you can switch it off but the ldk crashes unless you play 10 and 10

How is the LDK mod compared to the console version? Default settings feel like a lot more enemies than I imagine the official version having.
