And I'm pretty sure it can't be anything other than turbo and LDK which they'd totally lock behind a paywall.
LDK maybe, but I don't see them releasing one toggleable option in the Game Options Menu that simply speeds up the game as a separate DLC let alone as a payed one. This would be a new kind of low for Capcom.
Don't think so, if that was the case, only one console brand would've got it.
For me, SE being a console exclusive is purely a Capcom move, just like DMC3's Switch version.
Capcom COO recently said they plan to focus more on PC to make it their main plateform by 2023, maybe that's their first step.
If this is the case, if this is indeed some kind of "DMC5's SE DLC preparation update" for PC, this is really good news. Not only for DMC5, but for all Capcom's recent and futur games.
If this is not related to the SE, and is just a simple update... why now?
The last "build update" was the 15th december 2020 (and that was Vergil's DLC).
Also, the build branch name is completely different than last time. It seems that nv_mas_00 also appear in other Capcom games dev history like RE7 and RE Resistance: https://steamdb.info/app/418370/history/
https://steamdb.info/app/952070/history/
So, it could be the sign of an engine update.
But again, why update older games? Capcom is not particulary known for updating older games without reason.
It may be far fetched, but nv_mas_00 might may mean something like newversion_master_00.
For me re_ means reachegine, qa_ quality assurance, dev_ developpement, ma_ master, ext_ external, tu_ .... I have no idea.
Maybe it means something, maybe not. My foughts.
Maybe they are planning a wide engine update on PC, which may or may not bring RT capabilities (and other new engine features) on DMC5 and RE7 on an engine level, maybe they plan to ad the SE version of PC after that, I don't know.
My thoughts only.
It could also be a redist update, but I don't think so.
First reason is that it wouldn't require multiple depot updates (there has been 14 depot updates since the 28th september).
Second reason is that none of the changed depots seem to include redist software.
Third reason is that it seems to only focus RE Engine games.
What if...
Capcom was planning a re-release of RE7 (with RT) on PS5? (Or at least a RT update/DLC)
This is totally Capcom's style and that would explain an engine update for RE7.
And that could lead to RE7, RE Resistance and DMC5 being updated to the last version of RE Engine, bringing them RT capabilities, even on PC.
I know this is far fetched, but this is just a theory.
Since every company's comunication lead to a direct consequence on said company's market share value, it's better to say good things than bad things.
Even if those are lies or don't necessarily mean anything concerning the company's plans.
If I'm correct, Steam Deck runs under a linux based OS, and most games run through Proton, a wrapper which acts like a interface between linux and dx, so It's like a soft emulation.
So, if there was work to be done to make a game run correctly under Proton, it's more a Proton update that should be in the works, not the game itself. Unless I'm mistaken, Capcom has pretty much nothing to do on his side to improve how his games work on steam deck, aside from developping a complete Linux build.
Also, it seems to already run pretty well on steam deck.
