sort of like DS3 death mechanic where it shows pre-recorded frames of people dying etc.
except at times where dante or nero shows up in gameplay it is an actual player doing combos and stuff, it's not a fully fledged co-op experience.
Like... at all.
Sometimes during the story, you will encounter the other characters, and they are normaly controled by the AI. But if another player is playing the same mission at the same time and is available, both games can "synchronize" and you will see his moves instead of the AI ones during your own playthrough.
If you are lucky, you will barely see a difference with the AI, if you are not, the guy could go AFK, steal your kills, ruin your combo or even cheat. Or even corrupt your save, who knows?
It's a fully automated system, there is no lobby or whatsoever, the games manages this all by himself in real time during your gameplay. Even if the game will prioritize people in your friend list, you don't get to choose. And honestly, even if you manage to start the same mission than a friend at the same time, and make sure you don't use the same character, the chances you will meet in the game are pretty low in my opinion, we don't know when the game makes his "system triggers" to synchronize people.
My point is: This is not a coop game and there is no multiplayer mode. This is a single player game where people can appear in other people's game and play alongside them, or in the distance, as a "cameo".
That's why its called like that.
That's DMC3.
Ghost = Pre-recorded fight data
Cameo = Fighting in your view point, but you can't reach them
it's not Multi-player and it very much not co-op
As you progress in the story, you unlock co-op missions which is done either with co-op player that is also queuing at the same moment or, after time-out period, a ghost of a player will join you as an AI partner instead.
In DMC3 when you used the doppleganger style, you could play your shadow with a second controller.
DMC1 doesn't have anything like that at all.
You stated there are no lobbies but nothing about whether or not I could invite someone. Just wanting to make sure.
