If you get hit straight out, then you started blocking too late.
If you blocked it, but your DT bar decreased, then you blocked too early. If you don't have enough DT when this happens, your block will shatter.
If you blocked it perfectly, you should get a sharper sound effect, increased style ranking, and increased DT bar.
Sounds like you're blocking too late though.
Thought I had to tap the button as well, not sure why but thank you again for the clarification lmao
There is a tech to get the royal block with jumping.
Basically when you jump, you gain immunity frames even if the attack goes through you.
And since the royal block requires that you block exactly upon contact, when you are jumping and an attack goes through you and you are immune, if you block during that moment you will always get a royal block. Try it against the hell cainas with their vertical attacks. Try jumping towards their attack and as you see their weapon go through you block and it will be a royal block.
Also don't tap, it ruins your frames and might give bad results.
