What should I use to play this game?
Hello, new to the series, the only other game I played of this type where the two Bayonetta on my Wii U, I don't really know how much different this one is. I'd like to know what of what I own should be what I use.

I have a keyboard and a mouse, an XBox One controller and a Gamecube controller The Switch sees as a pro controller and the PC sees as a 360 controller. For whackier things, I have a wheel with its gears and it's pedals, a flight sticks and I'm getting Steam Index HMD and VR Knuckles whenever these come out aswell as an USB SNES controller.

It is pretty similar to Bayonetta. In fact, Bayonetta feels like a DMC spinoff.

You can play this game with mouse and keyboard, but a controller is adviced. I play it with an xbox one controller.

You will have to remap some buttons to take fully advantage of the combat system.

I use a ps2 controller due to how much of a beating it can take. I don't use xbox controllers for games such as these because it will absolutely destroy your shoulder buttons. The xbox triggers, and bumpers are made from cheap flimsy plastic that easily wear and break. Triggers also have horrible input delay when you're doing exceed moves.

The steering wheel you have might actually come in handy though. Bind the pedals to key presses with joytokey and you'll be able to use it to buffer moves like nero's charged pistol shot.
Honestly, just use whatever's more comfortable for you. Most players use a controller in the vein of an XBox/PS/Switch controller (which are what these games are designed with in mind to be fair) but there's also a number of keyboard players out there.

As for similarities to Bayonetta, there's differences, but also some similarities. DMC is based entirely around it's directional input system. It's a system where when you're locked on to an enemy, you can do different actions depending on what button you're pressing while holding a direction. Bayonetta technically has this too, but it's significantly less emphasized due to Bayo's dial combo system, where you press the two attack buttons in specific strings to get different canned combos. DMC doesn't have dial combos and instead has only pause combos, and the few canned combos there are in DMC are nowhere near as long as Bayonetta's.

This makes DMC's combat far more deliberate, as it's more about stringing individual moves to create custom combos rather than relying on canned combos most of the time. Again Bayonetta allows for this too, but it's less emphasized and nowhere near as deep as DMC. DMC is also more concerned with how "Stylish" your combos are, rather than how long a combo can go without breaking, like bayonetta.

Oh, and DMC doesn't have QTE's (yay).

lol
I've tested the controlls a bit, gotta say, surprised by how natural the game feels on the gamecube controller, it reminds me of super smash brothers in a way. Those who can put their hands on a PC compatible GC controller, I think you should try it.

The buffer things with the pedals, I don't fully understand what you mean.

When you hold a button down to charge an attack, that's called a buffer. For example with Dante's shotgun you can hold the gun button down to charge it up. With the pedal you could keep your gun charged while freeing your hands to use other moves.

Oh, I see, that sounds pretty cool but would it really make a difference in the end?

Big difference. It would allow you to multi task much better, some of the most powerful moves in the game require buffering and so you will have a much easier time focusing on attacking while your moves are charging up. Especially with Nero's pistol as you don't want to constantly be holding a button while you're fighting.

A big difference. DMC requires you to multitask quite a lot. For example, for Nero, you can remap the gun button to the left bumper button or L1 on a PS controller. That way, you can charge up your gun and do combos at the same time, then unload your gun-mid combo, and continue with melee attacks, etc.
