URIZEN - Name's TRUE Meaning !
Well I know this might be obvious already to some.
But I finally understand/discovered the actual meaning behind Urizen's name:

Well... V pronounces it in the cutscene to mission 9:

"This Demon is your reason.
YOUR-REASON (URIZEN) for fighting."

(When he repeats that YOUR REASON - he utters that smoothly which sounds just like Uri Zen).

Well that's pretty cool.
Initially thought the name is either Japanese or based on "Rising" (like AMD Ryzen).
Rewached the scene in Dante's place, a few times, until I finally got it . lol
:fhappy:

I didn't notice the pun ether. Especially since everyone but v pronounces it "UR-UH-ZEN". I didn't bother to question why V was the only one saying it differently.

urizen is a reference to william blake.

Daventh Mar 29, 2019 @ 2:32pm
Yes, it is a reference to William Blake, he wrote a book called "The Book of Urizen", I think since V makes a few references to Blake and has a book with his poems too they just decided to name him that, after all, Urizen himself says he has no name, doubt it's meant to be a pun.

Urizen is a cruel god in William Blake's mythology, and Vergil loves William Blake's.

Actually - Urizen saying he has no name is the hint!
Because clearly V is the one who gave Urizen the name YOUR-REASON because he wanted to stimulate Dante with the motivation for fighting his Devil half.
Urizen clearly didn't bother with names, therefore he doesn't recognize the name "Urizen" given by V.

V also says he has no name too, and 2 days old because truly he was basically few days old (didn't check the date) since being "born" after the split.
Also note that Dante never calls the Devil Urizen -because he only ones him as his brother.

Also: taken from Wikipedia:
In the mythology of William Blake, Urizen (/ˈjʊrɪzən/) is the embodiment of conventional reason and law ...... Originally, Urizen represented one half of a two-part system, with him representing reason and Los, his opposition, representing imagination
Reason...
One half...

Furthermore, another fun reference:
In the DMC Anime Dante says at episode 10:
"When someone picks a fight with me, I give it to him. It's the only REASON I fight".

Well, we all know that Vergil ALWAYS picks a fight with Dante, hence giving him *reason* for fighting.
When I watched the scene for the first time I thought of the anime, since I watched it recently before release.

No guys, seriously. Go re-watch the cutscene where V walks into Dante's shop.
Afrer Dante says: "Special? What's so special about this one?"
V replies while articulating the words: "This demon is Urizen. Ur-rizen for fighting".

The way he pronounces "Youreason" can't be mistaken and can't be unheard.

It's funny, I wasn't focused at the screen - which made me *hear* the Urizen
vividly and sharply.

Then I was "URIZEN. AHH....NOW I GET IT!"
It's only fitting that Vergil/V will send a message to Dante that way.

Just listen and understand ;)

Yeah, I'm not sure if its intentional though, since "Urizen" is also a Blake reference. We also see V starting to mouth the word "Vergil" at the end of the Dante's office flashback, so its not clear why they start calling him "Urizen" and why they dont tell anybody else who he really is.

Because he didn't want to trust V and his story. Imagine if he just told Trish and Lady they have to go kill Vergil. Woulda been a really huge mistake if it wasn't Vergil.

It's totally intentional. Have you perhaps read my last 3 posts and rewatched the scene?
I'm surprised I'm the only one who discovered and noticed that.

It's actually goes hand in hand with William Blake reference - because Urizen is a good that embodies REASON. Also considered one HALF of a deity with an opposite half as rival. So it's no coincidence.
Plus he deliberately pronounces the name Urizen. Emphasizing the *Ur* and *Ri-zen*. It unmistakeable, at least for me.
