Yeah, I've been trying to make way more use of Barricade and Hedgehog since I realized I didn't use them as much before. Although Hedgehog feels riskier since it doesn't seem to activate while you're in the air. I do try to save Nightmare for strong enemies, since the weaker ones just let me build DT, but I hadn't considered summoning him then immediately recalling him, I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I have experimented with getting V himself close to enemies to keep the familiars there, but it still seems to be hit or miss. Plus, it seems like his playstyle is supposed to be keeping him away and letting the familiars do the work.
Do that and you can pretty much rek any enemy encounter with no effort whatsoever. As opposed to Dante and nero where you do have to learn combos and timings.
Last thing about V is that the familiar AI is less effective when you're far away from the enemy so you'll have to take the risk a lot of the time and get closer, but this also allows you to fill the enemy with countless cane spikes so it's a win win.
PS forgot to mention to spam air taunts as it just gives you free DT gauge instantly. More cane ammo.
Air taunts, gotta remember those! For some reason I completely forget about them as V. Also I didn't realize that using Royal Fork against "live" enemies would still damage them, I'll try that out now, thanks! Yeah, Griffon's flying attack has been my go to for him for damage.
I still kinda wish the familiar AI was better at range. Getting V close and putting in him in so much danger seems antithetical to his playstyle, but you're now the second person to tell me the pets react better when you get close, so I'll start doing that. Thanks!
I read the book as much as possible especially when Nightmare is there (significant extra time before he goes away, I don't know if air taunt is better). It's not mandatory but before he goes I like to use his huge laser (press forward twice while on his back and hold B, it's easy to use).
The laser is definitely one of my favorite Nightmare attacks. Yeah, I've also started to avoid staying locked on all the time and I'd already been using the book. Thanks!
Seems like you just need to sit in the void and practice inputs though.
lol. There is a way to "call" Shadow to you by dodging, but after that he scurries off to the side wildly. So even if you call him to you using a dodge, if you're right in front of an enemy, it still takes him a few, possibly deadly, seconds to get into position.
I will practice inputs though, I probably do just need to test him out way more than I did on the lower difficulties.
--Shadow advice---
Shadow Forward+Attack is SOOOO good for parrying things. Always use his Forward+Attack to parry. I've had him parry 2 butchers and the Hell Ludecca all in 1 attack. They immediately target hit for the retaliation. Especially good against the flying reapers with scissors, butchers and Knights.
Shadow's back>Forward+Attack does a large amount of damage and is good for finishing the job when your not trying to summon Nightmare on DT enemies.
Shadow's Back+Attack is good for anti-airing enemies and knocking down enemies in DT. Just don't mash if it doesn't launch as he will miss the followup.
Shadow's AttacK>Delay>Attack>etc is great for knocking down enemies and does a great amount of damage. I used this to bully bosses as it parries and on normal enemies it can stall in 1v1 while griffon charges attacks. Allows you to charge Hedgehog while doing it.
--Griffon Advice
Use Griffon's Forward+Attack to knock enemies out of the sky and onto the ground.
Griffon's Back+Attack is good for hitting enemies who you know are going to rush you. Good for walling yourself while you charge hedgehog. Knocks down DT enemies but it only activates near you so get behind it after activating it.
Griffon's Back>Forward+Attack (charged) is a boss killer. Doesn't work well on Greyson(I suggest using Shadow's Forward+Attack when you see him charging at you to parry and knock him off balance). Melts most bosses pre-DMD. Helps alot. you can full charge this but you only really need to lv.1 this.

Thats all I know. I'm still learning alot about V myself. Sorry about not knowing the names very well.
I've pretty much been doing all of this stuff haha, thanks though. I've realized that I need to baby Shadow and watch over him much more than Griffon.
