How are the microtransactions in this game?
Huge DMC fan here. The original was the reason I bought a PS2. I bought DMC3 four times now; original, special edition, PC version (that was an unplayable mess), HD version for 360. I even loved DMC4 and thought the reboot was fun enough.

But I was apprehensive when I learned they put microtransactions in this game. Granted, DMC4 SE had them, but they weren't required to progress.

I never grind in these games. I start a game and 'git gud' until I beat it, then try the harder difficulties. I googled, but there are mixed reviews for the microtransaction portion of the game.

So in this game:

- is progression good without microtransactions? I'd avoid them entirely, if they're required I'll play something else.
- is the PC port good?
- Anything else I should know when deciding whether to buy this?

Thanks in advance.

Same as dmc se 4. Buy it, totally worth it.

Microtransaction is not even a thing in this game, u dont need to spend a dollar. Orbs can be farmed easily.

Neat, thanks all.

Makes me wonder why they bothered adding them in the first place. I wonder if they were following corporate instructions to put microtransactions in their game, then made them completely meaningless so they game would still be good.

Likely the second one. You know how investers/shareholders get about profits. Worse part about them is you can only buy them once so you can't p2w if you wanted lol.

It's practically like DMC4SE, useless, almost non-existant to some extent. It's way more fun to just play the game anyways.

This. The game literally bombards you with red orbs (which you now use to buy everything like back in DMC1/DMC3, thank god) and blue orb pieces and the only thing that is hard to get without MTX is a slightly stronger taunt that basically only exist so people have something to grind towards after unlocking all skills and blue/violet orbs (so basically the same thing as the tornado shooting musket in MGS4, only less useful).

And can't blame them for selling some extra costumes and soundtrack from the older games, the only things you might actually want to buy.

It's a great game and as a DMC vet you NEED to play it, believe me. It's the ♥♥♥♥, the greatness we've been waiting for for over 10 years.

Useless, don't even know why they are there, it just felt obligatory to have them in so fools and people who don't know how to play the game can waste money on it.

the mtx doesnt matter at all. at best they are small boosts in red orbs so you can get more abilitys out of the gate. if you enjoyed the other DMCs, you are probably gonna love this one. port is pretty decent too

I am jus gonna state on this issue cus even though it isnt technically microtransaction the dlc are kindda similar
HOWEVER, you can only buy them once! so in a way, if u dont want to get the dlc you absolutely dont have to but if u do, it will make progression easier!

The devs counter the microtransactions by buffing the red orb count in game & with a certain trick you can get stuff in the game & never buy them or feel the need to buy them

The mircrotransactions are there but you REALLY don´t need them , everyone can farm red orbs easily

You can pretty much just ignore them. Personally I still find it kind of annoying that microtransactions are there, however not just microtransactions, but the entire reviving mechanic thats possible.

I've seen a lot of people play this game and not even learn how to do it because of how many gold orb revives you can acquire especially if you play a short time each day (daily gold orb), and then even dipping into red orb revives which just trivialised the entire game, and prevented them from actually learning and enjoying the mechanics. There are already difficulty options, why not have something like a dmc3 style "easy mode is now unlocked" if people are really having trouble.

Sure, I can just ignore it, but I hate seeing other people ruin the experience without even realising it.

Yeah, gold orb inflation is a major issue. In DMC4 you could find like 3 gold orbs in the wild throughout the entire game. Considering how difficult one of those was to get, realistically you would get two orbs to work with. That said, because of the proud souls/red orb split you'd still end up able to buy two or three extra gold orbs near the end of the game because once you bought all blue and violet orbs there wasn't anything useful to buy with red orbs (healing stars were better because they had less impact on post mission ranks, but still, eventually those got pricy too), but especially early in the game you had a real risk of running out of healing items if you played badly and having to repeat levels or at least boss fights.

Let's not even start with DMC3, where even in the easier SE version you'll still have your but kicked on normal difficulty by several bosses, Dark Souls style, forcing you to learn their patterns to win the fight (which funny enough really helped me get into Dark Souls 1 back when it released). And if you lost that fight you had to redo the entire level.

I just finished the second Dante level in DMC5, and even without daily bonuses I got like 13 gold orbs. They are just too plentiful and extremely easy to find. Heck, the well hidden ones are a major letdown when you discover them in a secret area because you already got so many of them and wish you had gotten an orb piece or even just pretty much anything else (even just a single red empusa) instead, something which at least gets you some red orbs, instead of another pointless golden orb.

If anything being able to buy continues with red orbs seems fair as it directly affects your ability to upgrade and you lose something valuable that will stunt your character growth if you fail too often (similar to losing souls if you fail to retrieve them in Dark Souls) and pretty much every player will realize that's a considerable punishment that should be avoided by playing better. But the dozens of gold orbs are just jail free cards if you don't care about your post level rank and you get drowned in them.

I don't think it matters since DMC games difficulty has come from trying to perfect the content not survive it. I mean in games before there was tons of Holy Water which allots you to melt bosses and wipe whole areas of demons with a single button press.

Gold orbs is irrelevant since there is a cap on how many you can carry(10 iirc), they brutally lower your rank and red orbs revive drastically cost more per revive. I'd be concerned if DMC has always carried itself off difficulty.

Unnecessary if you collect any orbs you see throughout the game, but if you don't feel like collecting, just buy the orbs I guess.
