Just download the mods, it's not going to hurt you.
When you select "Enable PS4 configuration" in the Steam Big Picture mode, what you're doing is telling Steam to emulate your PS4 controller as an Xbox controller, making it compatible with most or all games, but making those games recognize it as an Xbox controller.
Some games on Steam, such as the recent Far Cry or Hitman games, actually have native PS4 controller support and show the correct buttons. For these games, what you want to do is right-click them, select "properties," then at the bottom of the dialog box where it says "controller config settings" you're gonna want to turn it to "forced off." If the game natively supports PS4 controllers, it will now show the correct prompts.
Devil May Cry 5 does not natively support the PS4 controller at all, so you should leave the aforementioned setting alone. However, there is a mod you can find on the "Guides" section of the community hub for DMC5 that will let you change the in-game prompts into their PS4 counterparts.
go to this page for uninstall instructions for usb device driver or check device manager for hardware changes and find the usb device with the "!" yellow icon. uninstall it and restart. Your ps4 controller should no longer show as xbox in steam.
