Worth getting?
I played the demo, it seemed like some fun, and I could see myself enjoying playing through the single player story, but I know there's a fairly big multiplayer aspect to the game that seems really cool. I'm not sure if there's much of a community that's still around though, or if that's necessary to play/enjoy the non story modes.

Thoughts on playing the non story content solo or with a limited community? What kind of matchmaking is there if any, or would I have to hit people up here to get people to join?

The story and non story is fine solo till you get bored. If you want to play with others I'd say its better and more efficient to ask on forum, theres some ppl looking for someone to play with every now and then so community isnt completely dead. Technically you can find some open lobbies ingame but not too often.
Whether you think its worth getting or not is up to you, most of the actual content is fine solo but since coop is up to 4 players you dont need big community(just dont bother with main story in coop mode, aint worth it).

Oh and matchmaking is basically host creates online lobby and other ppl can freely join(theres also SOS thing but its more of an issue than feature).

the story doesn't seem promising at 1st but the first half of the story is super fun, gets boring on the second story and the multiplayer is fun, its been a while since i played so i'm down to play with anyone who's looking at this discussion

I waited around 3 years to get this game on discount (may be I missed some event) but literally enjoy this game because I'm a fan of the series.

Let me talk about my favorite part.

Friendship rising part is a little bit of a dating sim that you can walk together, give a gift that match their taste and go on mission together and they will show you a little bit of side story in many characters. They struggle with their own problem and you will help them getting over, growing strong. World building in this AOT is pretty solid and you will see more of the characters that how they take their part in it. Side story and character development are worth to see and make me love them more than I saw them in anime.

I also like the way game give player a role in the story. Characters will talk to you, praise you, ask your opinion and even take an important role in some event. Make me believe that my character is an actual person and I'm the "protagonist" that effect to the plot progression. RPG style is also spot on. You can learn new skill to make your own fighting style and swagger move.

And after you finish the story mode, you can fulfill your dream by go back in time (replay) and rescue character that died in the main story ! I really like to do it but I must finish the story first to unlock this alternative timeline.

Another mode is character episode mode that let we play as some character and play an important role in the plot from their side.

You can also have the mode that let you build your own army, recruit characters to form your dream team and build up your own base. Manage personnel in many roles and gain benefits from each function base on character's skill. Like Levi and his squads (including Eren) are good at cleaning. Erwin and Pixis are good at management etc. You can also make an agenda or policy to power up your army like form a team to gathering resources, capture the titan or even skill up your soldier. Or even improve your base like town square, meeting hall, barracks and they will visually change if you keep doing it and characters will comment about the things you have done. Each of these function will effect to your base development and game gameplay.

Multi player function pretty good and community is active and helpful. Veteran player can help you gathering resources in harder mission so you can craft more powerful equipment early on.

I played this game almost 100 hr. Just to flirt with characters and progress so little on the story but still, I really happy with it.

So imo, on discount it's really worth to get.

Thank you all for the replies. I did decide to buy the game and have been having a lot of fun with it. Making my way through the story (just got to the part with the female titan) and planning to put a lot more time in. Hope to see some of you out on scouting missions soon 😁
