I'm also interested in PoV point and click games like Scratches. Anyone know anything else like it that's good?

This one looks very casual, right? Just realised that I bought it some time ago

Was thinking that Scratches was very much a Dark Fall variation, so if you want a game like Scratches you should check the Dark Fall sequels as well, and the Burrow Hill games. And The Lost Crown.

Disco Elysium.

not point and click per se, but plays like one I'd say.

+1 Disco Elysium, it's probably where the old Adventure Game genre wants to go if it wants greater relevance in the future.

yeah well, we have been hearing for more than 20 years where Adventure games should go if they wanted to stay relevant (in this case, they should be rpgs).

Nah, if you prefer Disco Elysium then you prefer these kind of narrative/rpg games. Which is an itch I would have. But whenever I have an itch for a narrative game with inventory puzzles that require you to pay attention, I play an adventure game.

I was expecting something more of a RPG experience with Disco Elysium but i got an isometric point and click with a twist.

if you want hardcore, machinarium/botanicula/samorost serve a contemporary purpose, and are available on mobile.

Might also be worth a look, has its own style if humor, but it is very hit & miss. Has a demo you can check out.

But hear me out - what if Disco Elysium's conversation mechanics, but add inventory puzzles.

Adventure games that follow the old formula aren't going away, but they've also hit the ceiling of the audience niche they're going to appeal to, which means the cap of their potential production values. The Curse of Monkey Island is probably the best we're ever going to get for this reason (don't @ me about Broken Age)

Though I certainly wouldn't mind the RPG genre in general taking more from DE too, since 'role playing' in most contexts means how well can you absorb & inflict violence & support your ability to absorb & inflict violence. Though it's interesting that you see DE & think 'RPG' & mainstream RPG audiences see DE & think either 'Adventure game' or 'Walking simulator'

I think that would be a brilliant idea and a good addition to the video game offer, but not something I would appreciate - I dislike how Disco Elysium is written because noir, to me, is those novels written in the 30s that consist of really short sentences, not overlong overwritten overexpository stuff. Yeah I know I am the exception.

There is room for everything though, and even room for narrative dice throwing choose your own adventure with some light puzzles design.

Well I mean - I wasn't saying 'literally' DE, just because a hypothetical game uses its mechanics doesn't mean it needs to be the same narrative genre.

As for the 'really short sentences', aren't 'most' adventure games just packed with tons of single-sentence exchanges & quips?

Fortunately! Then you have things like The Longest Journey.
Hey, at this point I don't even know what I am arguing about.
