Green Jelly / Slimes spawnrates

Is it just me or is green jelly way too rare? I need a ton of green jelly for crafting some impure items yet I have grinded ~6 hours on Beginners Forest on Easy and Hard, since those are the only places slimes spawn. Now, I barely made any Green Jelly at all, barely enough to craft a single helmet that even turned bad quality. Is this bugged or supposed to be this way? No other ingredient in the entire game gives me this much trouble as Green Jelly does. How do I get more?

Try giving your people knives as assist item if you unlocked them already.
