Battle for Wesnoth
Super-Easy mode?
Custom and normal campaigns are just too hard. I have something like 200+ hours on this game before it released on Steam, and at least 40% of that is spent saving and reloading. Not obsessively for perfect results, just to survive. I'm wondering if there's some sort of secret mode that makes the game way easier? I can beat maybe the simplest of campaigns without reloading.

Yeah yeah I know, whatever, I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. But when a campaign has 4 difficulty options, I assume the easiest one labelled "easy" won't mean I lose constantly. I always check time cycles and attack when I get bonuses, I manage terrain and units and keep a tab on everything, but the fact that time limits are generally so harsh means you have to take risks, and then the risks don't pay off. There's actually a lot less tactile thought when you have 17 turns to defeat two enemy commanders that take about 6 turns to reach one of.

Anyways, any super easy mode or something? Saw a mod that turned off random hit chances. Might try that.

I'd recommend uploading replays on the forums and asking for opinions. You are obviously doing *something* wrong, but since I'm not looking at a replay of yours, I can't see what you are doing wrong.

The only thing I can recommend beyond that is not to reload and to deal with the bad luck. Reloading is a crutch when you use it like that, and I'm pretty sure it cripples your skillgrowth.
erm, the game is piss easy on normal difficulty, not sure what you're doing. I do use a tiny bit of saving, for example if i really need something dead that turn and i've got a 75% chance of killing it, i'll just reload, if i haven't got those odds i'll usually do something else. Hence asking for replay would show where he's going wrong. Can provide replays of game being easy if that helps?
I might use cheats if they exist to help myself get through, thanks Breez. I didn't know that was a thing - It sucks to hit a standstill and suffer.
I guess my biggest issue is a lot of campaigns give you good units, but they're not expendable - They turn the tides of battle, but if you're not careful, one dies and you lose. So if you keep them back, you can get overwhelmed - AI seem to simply rush down the player, so allied units are a bit useless.

I really only reload if I'm going to lose, i.e if I'm in a position where that turn my 60% chance to hit failed three hits on someone one hit from death, and then I lose a full health unit due to an enemy unit rolling a 40% perfectly three times in a row, allowing a 12-2 mage to hit my important unit twice, dropping him to essentially one hit death.

I didn't know there's cheats though, but if I can use 'em to wiggle out a win on some campaigns, that'd be nice!! I've dropped too many for failing part of the way through and not wanting to totally restart.
TY!
Also worth noting that campaign is all about snowballing. Get a bunch of level 2 units on the first 2 rounds of a campaign, make sure any unit you care about can only be hit from a maximum of 3 sides at any time, you can watch how the enemy moves. Recalling all your level 2/3 units on middle sized campaigns should allow you to beat later campaigns with reasonable ease, currently got 10 level 2 units and starting to hit level 3s in my current campaign where i'm 5-6 missions in out of 17 or something

Using only recruit level 1 troops will suck and was where i originally went wrong on campaign, given you have 200+ hours i'm presuming this isn't your issue. (to be clear when in campaign, you can "recall" troops from previous missions)

Hey Terran. I have a great solution for you. You need mod: Move units between campaign.
How it work ?
Step 1: Install mod: Move units between campaign.
Step 2: Install mod campaigns or or go to standard campaigns in search of strong standard units (I would recommend choosing units starting from level 2 and higher, but if you want, you can choose units of level 1 and even level 0).
Step 3: When you find suitable standard units, move them to the desired campaign.
Now you have a strong army that you can call in at any time and use it as you wish - 1) fulfill the mission objectives; 2) help normal units in obtaining new levels; 3) just block enemy units that interfere with you.

Interesting. I never heard of that, but it does sound like quite the power boost. Thanks for the tip - I'll look into it.
I have a repository of campaign edits wherein I make them easier: https://github.com/cooljeanius/wesnoth_mods
Based on some of your comments I'd say it sounds like you aren't really considering all of your options in combat if you need a mod to reduce the RNG.
To rephrase, it sounds like you understand the mechanics but not how to use them. There is also the issue that some scenarios require you to change up your strategies and unit compositions on the fly, which you might not be doing.
The turn limit is there to stop people from farming and getting max level troops on the first mission. You have to make each turn count and be active in making strategic plays every single turn.
Don't give up, man. You can win.
