What is the purpose of Add Friend functionality?
How do i know when my in-game friend is online?
How do i invite them into my created game?

If you have added someone as a friend in wesnoth MP, you'll receive a message when a friend goes online. Additionally friends are shown at the top of the list of online players.

You invite them by texting them and asking them to join your game, if you have set up a password, you tell them said password.

How can text them? Is it on Multiplayer settings? Or MP players list?

You can also friend them in Steam and be able to communicate that way too.

Yes but what if they don't have a steam account?
