Cant Spend Skill Point

I'll probably do a facepalm, but I just leveled and got a skill point and when I open the book it shows I have the Crafting skill--but I can't see any way to use the point. Can't seem to be able to add to crafting and dont see any other skills available...Hate to lose this (if I do) when I die...

You keep unspent skill points when you die. Some do not even spend skill points until they have a specific skill they want to put them in.

You get a skill every other level. And items come with skills but not white items. As soon as you get a green or higher item you may see a skill on the tag of that item. It will be in your skill book when you equip the item. Then you can spend skill points on it.

Thanks! I was concerned about losing the skill point if it didn't carry over...

you need to equip an item with a skill to spend the point to permalearn it. Its kinda a nice incentive to keep items you might not need around that have skills you want. Some items have different number values, when you learn the skill its often based on the value of that items roll. Example some Iron skin items are 2.9 secs for 1% some are 3.0 some are 3.1. so if you learned it at 2.9 then thats the skill numbers you always have.

This appears to be incorrect. I died and had something like 6 unspent skill points saved up. When I came back, I had 0 points to spend and I had lost points, yet I stayed the same character level. Which means those points are gone forever.
