New-game plus is brutal
I beat the game with the amazonian, but then died very quickly playing a new game with her, not realizing the enemies start so strong, and now without decent equipment, everything kills me in 2 hits and the game is basically impossible to continue with her anymore.

Each enemy deals 200+ damage with each attack and takes forever to kill, and that's just on floor 1 of it.

I think some balancing might be necessary, unless this is some kind of glitch and they shouldn't be that op.

[new-game plus is when there's a silver star next to the character]

Edit: also in NG+, the enemies move and attack much faster making it even more brutal, and don't give any more experience than normal either.

Something is wrong with damage progression. I can't even get past floor 5 before getting killed in two hits. On floor 1-3 I can practically facetank everything. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Sounds challenging im stuck on floor 6 normal run lol
Dunga Nov 22, 2020 @ 9:51pm
how did u even get so fat? lvl 5 ♥♥♥♥♥ me up
Thaecrasis Nov 23, 2020 @ 9:03am
(I assume you mean far, not fat :p )
It took me a lot of deaths to beat it, always making sure I drop better and better gear down the chute to make the successive runs easier, and using invulnerability potions for really difficult areas.

Making the best use out of swinging your inventory sack, and using exploding barrels is also really helpful, as no matter how strong an enemy is, they instantly die to spikes, pits, and explosive barrels.

I am in the same boat as you. when first beat the game. on my next run i was like lets do 25 levels but it starts you out at floor 11. Its like a brick wall. So i made a new game, beat the last boss then pick 10 floors and still stuff is 2 strong. The only thing i can see is to not beat the last boss till your crazy leveled

I have cleared the game with the northerner 3 times. Currently lvl 45.
I am killing everything super quick!

Str int dex all near 300. I use whirlwind strike combined with the perk that makes you hit harder when you charge. I use life steal (flat dmg in inventory overview shows above 10k). So every time i kill something i get full life.

I use the unicorn head weapon. It is brutal! :D

Just keep going guys. Also. Nearly all monsters can be defeated in other ways then hitting them with your weapon. Sack and spikes or holes are brutal :D!

One more thing i have noticed is that if you fight monsters on stairs and you are below them. They can't hit you. So much for the high ground :P.

i try to grind stats but always end up starting all over again heh hard game
HoHoHO Nov 26, 2020 @ 12:05pm
enemies seem to scale exponentially, but stats/equipment scales linearly.
BeerdedPhantom Nov 26, 2020 @ 4:00pm
I have to STRONGLY echo this. I got killed by a trap on floor 2 or 3, then kept dying trying to recover on floor 1. It de-leveled me to 13 and took away a load of stats before the bleeding stopped, and now I just can't do anything. The initial gear from the chest is not enough to even get started. I can SLOWLY take out one enemy at a time if I'm lucky enough to see them alone in the halls, but anything beyond that just can't be done. The only hope I can imagine is being lucky enough to find the sack goblin room, loot, go immediately to floor 2, be lucky enough to find the chute before anything sees you, go die, and repeat a few times until you have even a fighting chance, and I can't even manage that... I've tried at least 20 times now, probably closer to 30..

See more than one enemy? You're dead.

Walk into a challenge room? You're dead.

Miss 2 parries or eat 1 haymaker? Dead.

Find a precious potion? Enjoy the tiny, useless sliver of health it gives you (worth about 1/5 of a single hit).

Find a green item that might possibly help you in some small way (including the ones given by the starter chest)? Hope to hell you even have the stats to equip it.

It felt AWESOME to finally make it all the way through the starter dungeon, and now I just feel so deflated not being able to even play that character anymore.

I really hope the way the beginning of the non-starter dungeons goes is re-balanced, because I've had a great time with this game otherwise.

Yeah, it seems as though New Game + mode forgot how to scale the game correctly and decided to put, "Yes." as the enemy's strength level.
I honestly think their current power level is uh, One Punch Man himself would call them out for being too overtuned. :P

I am not looking forward to running into this myself.
I can only hope it can be adjusted.

Either making a cap on how many stats you can lose in total ever, or reduce the enemy's damage output to not be able to literally beat the final tanky boss in about 5 hits. :P
Or whatever it seems set to based on what I've seen of New Game + mode from a streamer.

Pro Tip, guys. Never let yourself “die”

either backup your save occasionally or alt f4 before respawning. I did it often on the higher floors to learn certain rooms.
Sunderbrass Nov 26, 2020 @ 10:20pm
Eh, I feel like, if you're using Alt f4 to do anything other than get around a bug or map issue that has blocked your progress than you should be playing on Easy Mode. Ideally, the designer will patch in save on death rather than on respawn.
davidb11 Nov 26, 2020 @ 10:22pm
That would be fine, if New Game Plus wasn't suffering from Monsters being about 20 times stronger than they should be. :P

That needs to be fixed first.
Sunderbrass Nov 26, 2020 @ 10:43pm
I haven't been finding the monsters to be too strong. Anything that I can't one-hit thrust kill I knock into spikes or into a pit or lure into a trap. What has been killing me in NG+ are traps and spikes. Had one floor that was mostly spike pillars on narrow walkways surrounded by pits. You barely brush those spikes in NG+ and it can be a OHK.

I'm sure at some point in NG+ I'll start to really struggle, but I expect that from a dungeon that can have infinite levels. Then I'll start a new character and try a different build and see how that goes.
BeerdedPhantom Nov 27, 2020 @ 2:50am
Well, I managed to salvage my character, but it took something like 50 first-floor deaths (I have no life and I was in a masochistic mood I guess... and I really wanted to see if it could even be done) before I finally got a clear corridor to the sack goblin, who dropped a ridiculously strong purple mace and a few good pieces of armor. I was then able to methodically clear all the rooms on the first floor, picking up some more gear along the way, then got to level 2 and luckily the chute and shop were easy enough to get to. Now I'm back in the familiar loop, but man... it took a LOT of time and a luck.

I think I'll take BrandonJams' advice at least on backing up the save file... maybe I'll just try to do it only between dungeons. I hate to do it, but I spent a silly amount of time getting back into gear... don't really want to have to do that again if I happen to die a cheap death again... who knows how long it'll take next time? I'd REALLY like to see something about the scaling or balancing get tweaked a bit to make this less painful to deal with through gameplay, though.

Maybe it's just a matter of having the starter chest give more/better gear in dungeons after the starter dungeon?
