It took me a lot of deaths to beat it, always making sure I drop better and better gear down the chute to make the successive runs easier, and using invulnerability potions for really difficult areas.
Making the best use out of swinging your inventory sack, and using exploding barrels is also really helpful, as no matter how strong an enemy is, they instantly die to spikes, pits, and explosive barrels.
I am killing everything super quick!
Str int dex all near 300. I use whirlwind strike combined with the perk that makes you hit harder when you charge. I use life steal (flat dmg in inventory overview shows above 10k). So every time i kill something i get full life.
I use the unicorn head weapon. It is brutal! :D
Just keep going guys. Also. Nearly all monsters can be defeated in other ways then hitting them with your weapon. Sack and spikes or holes are brutal :D!
One more thing i have noticed is that if you fight monsters on stairs and you are below them. They can't hit you. So much for the high ground :P.
See more than one enemy? You're dead.
Walk into a challenge room? You're dead.
Miss 2 parries or eat 1 haymaker? Dead.
Find a precious potion? Enjoy the tiny, useless sliver of health it gives you (worth about 1/5 of a single hit).
Find a green item that might possibly help you in some small way (including the ones given by the starter chest)? Hope to hell you even have the stats to equip it.
It felt AWESOME to finally make it all the way through the starter dungeon, and now I just feel so deflated not being able to even play that character anymore.
I really hope the way the beginning of the non-starter dungeons goes is re-balanced, because I've had a great time with this game otherwise.
I honestly think their current power level is uh, One Punch Man himself would call them out for being too overtuned. :P
I am not looking forward to running into this myself.
I can only hope it can be adjusted.
Either making a cap on how many stats you can lose in total ever, or reduce the enemy's damage output to not be able to literally beat the final tanky boss in about 5 hits. :P
Or whatever it seems set to based on what I've seen of New Game + mode from a streamer.
either backup your save occasionally or alt f4 before respawning. I did it often on the higher floors to learn certain rooms.
That needs to be fixed first.
I'm sure at some point in NG+ I'll start to really struggle, but I expect that from a dungeon that can have infinite levels. Then I'll start a new character and try a different build and see how that goes.
I think I'll take BrandonJams' advice at least on backing up the save file... maybe I'll just try to do it only between dungeons. I hate to do it, but I spent a silly amount of time getting back into gear... don't really want to have to do that again if I happen to die a cheap death again... who knows how long it'll take next time? I'd REALLY like to see something about the scaling or balancing get tweaked a bit to make this less painful to deal with through gameplay, though.
Maybe it's just a matter of having the starter chest give more/better gear in dungeons after the starter dungeon?
