Returnal got excellent reviews and it was a waste of $70 for me, so it's all subjective.
^this
I don't even know where the hype came from. People were intrigued by the theme of the game. Then we didn't hear anything for almost 2 years. And suddenly there is a hype train out of nowhere (which I luckily didn't really notice until a month ago).
Not gonna lie the gameplay videos looked kinda cool and I'm really hype for the character looks (not due to the hype train. Had this game on my list when the release was still supposed to be 2019). That video that was released a few days ago about the story and setting really did the rest. Had to pre-order today after all. But the hype train had anbsolutely no realistic basis. Just media outlets hyping stuff up for clicks.
Fingers crossed it's not as much of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as Cyberpunk was. Luckily I avoided that one because I didn't pre-order then but it was still massively disappointing what we got there. Actually makes me kinda happy we didn't get any information on Biomutant the last two years :)
Honestly his only good points were about the bugs, everything else he said was just...well...stupid.
Yeah, the same guy who praised Wolcen for 30 minutes.
The guy who called some isometric game 'It's like Fallout... but turn-based and isometric'? :D
But other than that, the reviews aren't exactly bad. They're okay-ish. As far as I've listened to them it still looks like a game for me. The stuff that bothers reviewers isn't always something that would bother me. I'll buy the game after a few patches :3
The IGN guy played on PS5 and had a crash an hour, which is very annoying no matter who you are. Still, he admitted that the skilling system allowed you to pick up just about any weapon and be handy with it, which I find attractive.
So, it all comes down to what you like, which no reviewer can tell you. The best they can do is lay out their experiences and you have to decide whether you'd come to the same conclusions they did if you were presented with the same situations.
If the game is as buggy as it appears it is, it will get trashed no matter what else it offers.
But for my bucks, an ambitious RPG is worth a look see.
