I didn't buy games at release for ages, but still...
It is an indie project though, these are indie devs, they just have AAA publishing budget.
IMO, the price tag is totally justified, as per another poster above, the game seems to have enough content, breadth & depth to rival HZD or BOTW.
The same way mass-produced products tend to be cheaper than artisan, it is quite possible that THQ Nordic decided to sell the game for a slightly higher price because they don't expect the game to sell quite as many copies as any other AAA.
I've bought my fair share of niche/Grognard games to know that some games are more expensive than others simply because the devs have a smaller margin for profit given the reduced player base.
That's not the impression I got watching some streamers play it early. Really stiff looking animations and mushy damage sponge combat.
