Can't equip most weapons

So I finally bought myself a shotgun, but once I bought it I wasn't able to equip it. It's in my inventory, it's not above my level, it's definitely a weapon (and not a weapon part) but it just won't show up as an option when equipping ranged gear.

The same thing seems to be true for some of my melee weapons. Is there some requirement to learn weapon types before they can be equipped??

You most likely bought a Main Base Part for a weapon. I havent seen any full weapons on sale yet. ~ Try the building option and look the base part up again if it really isnt there then well im wrong x.x

Edit: another possibility is it maybe needs some stats that are not showing up (bug) so you cant equip it (some equipment needed agi or vit stat on my play but showed that on the item)

Edit 2: but from your wording "most" weapons its likely you are talking and buying the base parts of the weapons wich could be crafted all. You unlock crafting stuff after the child memory in your old village.

Vendors dont sell completed weapons. They just sell the main weapon part. You need to complete it by adding the other parts in crafting.

For a shotgun, that means you'll need to add a grip and a muzzle. Other parts are optional.

For a melee weapon you'll need to add a handle.

As Nevoras said, you'll need to complete the crafting tutorial. Just follow the main questline a bit if you don't have it unlocked. Its not too deep in.
