Yuppie Psycho

Yuppie Psycho

Game suggestions for Baroque Decay fans?
Everyone lurking these pages obviously enjoys this rare niche. But finding good games in this style can prove difficult. It would be great to hear all of your suggestions of other action/adventure games in this style with great humor and storytelling. Something to tide us fans of Count Lucanor and Yuppie Psycho over while waiting for the DLC. I've tried getting into some of those hyped RPG Maker games like Mad Father, but found the humor and fun lacking. Hoping there's something better.

Please share some suggestions! Especially off-the-beaten-path ones people might not have heard of otherwise.

A few I like:

West of Loathing - Open-worldish stick-figure turn-based action/adventure game with a lot of great jokes.

Thimbleweed Park - Funny Lucas-artsish adventure game throwback without the obtuse pixel-hunting and illogical puzzles that haven't aged well for that genre.

Telltale's The Wolf Among Us & Tales From The Borderlands - These are a bit of a stretch from this style, but they're both fantastic storytelling, funny and a lot of fun.

Oldschool: The Heroes Quest games - The Baroque Decay games are admittedly a lot cooler than these, but the fact that they were more of a hybrid of adventure and action/rpg put them somewhere in the same niche as these.

Yuppie Psycho seems strongly inspired by a lot of classic RPGmaker horror games, so honestly if you just go through a bunch of those I think you'll find similar vibes. Mad Father is one of the better ones and its on Steam. The Corpse Party games are worth a shot too.

Keep in mind, I don't think most of these quite reach the greatness of Yuppie Psycho, but if you enjoyed Yuppie I do think you'll find a lot of enjoyment just playing through the massive catalog of RPGmaker horror.

On another note, Suits: A Business RPG is an interesting little indie rpg that covers some of the same themes this game does. I haven't play the entire thing yet, but the part I did play was very enjoyable and comparable to Yuppie.
Don't Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland.
Stray Cat Crossing was the closest I found, though it's a little more emotional. That should still be on Steam. It has that very "wtf" feeling in a great deal of places as well as the "feels like Studio Ghibli but has gone horribly wrong". Everything is so cute and magical yet so deadly and evil... hellbent on your very destruction.

Stray Cat Crossing is very, very short and won't take much of your time at all. There's no real secret endings. But that's the only game that I felt had anywhere near that magic... And very fun music that stuck with me after the game was over. YMMV, fans.
I'm early into the game but so far loving the gorgeous pixel art. This is my flavor of weirdness, so maybe you'll like some of my recommendations.

Good humored FPS Games
Jazzpunk - A classic
Stanley Parable - Be sure to play the demo also as it's an entirely separate game
Only If - I'm amazed this is free. I've paid for many games with less polish
Smile For Me - Cutely sinister
Bucket Detective - Same dev that made The Static Speaks My Name which is free on Steam

Beautiful Scary Pixels
Hello Charlotte - First one is free on Itch.IO
Camp Sunshine - Good vibes
Tick Tock Isle - Not creepy but a great fun game
Charnel House Trilogy - Great sense of unease done here

Others
Tormentum - The art alone is worth it
Calendula - The game doesn't want to be played
Found this in the Steam event that's going on rn.

Cheeky haha
We're also publishing this game ;)
So the devs actually know each other~
Digging up this old post to see if anyone else has played Camp Sunshine or Sunshine Manor yet. I just ran across both on Steam based on the recommendation of a reviewer I follow and they seem to be much more in the style and humor of Baroque Decay than even Lamentum (which still seems great. Just not quite in the same humor vein as Yuppie Psycho/Count Lucanor), Just noticed Hoax above had Camp Sunshine in a list from his post over a year ago. Looks good. I'll likely grab one or both when the next sale rolls around, since I already spent far too much on the Steam Halloween sale and have a bunch of games to get through.

@-Hoax- Going down the rest of your list too, since we seem to have similar taste. Thanks. I played Stanley Parable a while back and wasn't much into it, though plenty of others seem great and I can see what people like about that one.

I also got "classic RPGmaker horror" vibes from this (albeit with way more visual polish). If you want more of those, vgperson has a ton of translated Japanese freeware games on her site[vgperson.com]. I think Wadanohara and Witch's Heart in particular have similar cutesy/sinister tones, but I haven't played much of them. Your Turn to Die is more of a deductive adventure game, but it has a similar aesthetic.
Thanks. I appreciate the suggestions. I've avoided the RPGmaker games tbh after trying out Mad Father and other such games and being pretty underwhelmed. Baroque Decay is taking some of that aesthetic for sure, but is on a pretty different level stylistically and thematically. I guess I'd liken it to a bad grindhouse horror that's gained a cult following through no fault of its own vs a Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez homage to grindhouse horror that's better paced, stylistically stunning and 100% in on the joke. I'm into this much less for the cute/dark 8-bit horror and much more for the surreal genius and artistic sensibility beyond that, as well as the humor. I mean, look at B.D.'s preview video for their Afterlife Pharmaceuticals project in the works. Holy [censored]!

Couldn't hurt to check these out though, seeing as they're free. Thanks for the links!
