"Voice" glitch? [SERIOUS SPOILERS]
Okay, so something extremely weird just happened. I beat the game (loved it!) and started a new game to do some achievement cleanup. I got the Voice tape and listened to it, saw the weird silhouette of Kate (???) when the singing started, and noticed that I could clip through the table. I walked up through the dark, turned on my flashlight, and realized I was following a blood trail. At the end of the trail was Kate surrounded by stacks of paper with NO HEAD. HOLDING HER HEAD. AND THE HEAD WAS ALIVE. I tried talking to her, but she just looked surprised.

Is this supposed to happen?! I tried walking around the room some and I think it glitched out. The song stopped immediately mid-lyric, my screen turned black, and I was thrown back to the cassette player. I tried playing the tape again, but I couldn't clip through the table again. What happened?! Is this why Kate inexplicably becomes a huge Japanese wig demon? What is she, a dullahan? What does that have to do with giant psychic Japanese snake mummy hair demons?

I am so frigging confused.

Also, here are the lyrics for Voice in case anyone cares:

The White Witch dwelled in the mountain
Watching a lost soul take from her fountain
She swore by fang and skin, tooth and nail, wicked spell
That all would hide and wail and share the tale of blood and Hell

I saw the sun rise with stars that burned bright into a red sky
I heard a voice cry in search of a new light
Maybe an old lie

La la la la la, la la, la la la la
La la la la la, la la, la la

I saw the sun rise

Underrated thread, I'm still looking for answers on the purpose behind the tape... I'm secretly convinced it has to lead to a secret ending or something, maybe by stabbing this version of her with athame after the party....? But other than that, it makes for way more questions than answers.

It might have been some sort of foreshadowing Easter egg, or an unintentional out-of-sequence spoiler, given you can see it before the party (which, again, I'm super confused about), but I really cant find much information on it.

Michael Kelly (composer) was talking about the lyrics on Twitter.

I think that the lyrics add depth to the story, and I enjoy imagining that.

Considering they had to patch Voice at some point, I'd say it's definitely intentional. I really, really hope the DLC has something to do with it and explains some things! I should try using the tape after the party and report back. I find this kind of thing absolutely riveting lol, I can't stop wondering what it means. I was pretty much falling asleep when I found it and had just been talking to my roommate about how weird it was that Kate seemed to be special in some way, then this happened and my tired brain was like "wtf, is this real life"? lol.

Thanks for this! It does seem to have actual connections to the game, like the White Witch is probably the snake wanting to punish humanity in general. Maybe the "I" is from the witch's perspective and is referring to Domori, who herself seems to be some kind of mute kitsune spirit with a good soul. My guess is that the snake "helps" Domori, knowing she'll get plenty of people to torture by hanging out with her.

Also, the juxtaposition of Asian and Christian religious themes/mythology is really interesting to me. Snakes are an old symbol of evil and the devil, and the game has a Mr. Devil (who seemingly has ties to our unassuming friend, Pasternack), but then we have a fox spirit and a Chinese family. The mysterious Mr. Spader (spaded tail?) sports the popularized blond, blue-eyed depiction of the devil in a lot of modern media (especially Japanese).

I just hope this stuff gets explained or at least addressed.

You're making things out to be more than what it is. The only purpose of the Mr. Devil costume was to get you into a locked room. It could've had more meaning, but it didn't.

If I was writing the story, I'd say that photocopying your soul with witch paper caused your soul to become more corrupt, eventually leading to a Mr. Devil bad ending. The vision of headless Kate could've also been a guilt trip rather than foreshadowing.

Seriously though, all conjecture notwithstanding, I would love some coverage in the DLC.

Everything was perfect up to the point after the party. The visuals, sound, music, story direction were on point, but the reveal ruined everything. It was like a book trilogy that was axed and ended on the 2nd book instead. I didn't like how things that seemed important went nowhere and the main villain was a convenient scapegoat that was evil for the sake of being evil.

The voice is a reference to what will be longer. Viewed from the DLC side, this is a reference to the fact that Brian will chop off the head of the witch. If we look at it from the side of the "usual" plot, then this is a reference to a party where Kate's head will be "cut off".

(P.s: At first, I was freaked out from what I had seen and started trying to do something about it myself, but I never came to anything. Looked at vidos, forums, wikis and came to this conclusion, which is higher.)
