How do i build roads

Uhm, im just starting my first game. Im at year 19 with the seasonal thing enabled. So i remember in civ the workers would suggest road building themselves at some point, but is it the same here? Do i need some tech or something so it would be automated?

You need the "Labour Force" tech to be able to build roads.

Generally, you need very few roads to connect cities. Use the B key to check what you need (and don't forget to display all the sea around a headland). You can also use roads for fast movement which may need some more.
