Game constantly Crashing
I have now tried multiple different options, I have reinstalled the game, tried it in Save Mode, changed settings to medium, changed FOW to low, switched on Slow IA, tried all FPS settings.... but the game still keeps crashing.

With lower settings the GPU does not go over 60% and the CPU runs less than 25%.

The game crashes randomly and I cant find anything specifically that is causing the issue.

System specs:
13th Gen Intel i7-13700
ram 65276MB
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 8g

Hope someone can assist with some sort of resolve

I have done the Bios update and it is not assisting at all
Any mods installed? Or even ones just sitting in the mods folder.
Having the same issue only it's actually causing my entire computer to reboot. I'd love to know the solution if anyone has found it. I updated my drivers, my OS, and reset direct X to 11 on the advice of my techy friend but its still happening

There is a known hardware issue with Intel 13700 and 13900 chips, whereby they can get into an unstable state and cause major faults with your PC.

You can also try limiting processer affinity in Task Manager - Details, right click the Old World process and set affinity. We have had a report of limiting the process to using the first 6 cores helping a player avoid stability issues.
Hi, , thank you all for your inputs, it is really helpful.
An update on the progress to resolve the issue where the game seems to crash randomly.
1) Update a number of Drivers to latest versions - this already made a difference
2) Updated the BIOS and used Default settings ie version 1805 - also made a difference
3) NB - it seems my Hard-drive (C:) where the OS is running on was a major issue (my games are installed on a different drive D:) - I had a Lexar SSD in and this caused the HD to spike to 100%.... and crash.
Replaced both with high-end / gaming SSD HD's and the game now runs really well without any issue experienced yet
I'm having a crashing issue as well. It was crashing randomly, but now when I start a new game, as soon as I found my first city it crashes. It completely shuts my pc off. I have to reboot. I have tried the various fixes suggested around the net and still no difference. This is the only game I have any issue with.
My PC is as follows:
AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS
AMD Radeon 6700S
40g RAM
WD Black SN850X 4TB hard drive
Windows 11

Why is this crashing?

A power off is likely to be caused by your system overheating or a failing power supply unit.

Have a look at https://www.pcworld.com/article/2091390/pc-switches-off-when-playing-what-you-can-do.html
I doubt the failing power supply as this is the only game this happens with. Maybe over heating, but I just don't think that's the problem. It's a laptop and is sitting on top of a laptop cooler when gaming. I can run much higher requirement games than this one with no issues all day long. There has to be some other issue that is being missed as it appears I'm not the only one with this problem.
I start a new game, as soon as I found my first city the game freezes, then black screen and reboot. I still have found no solution searching the net. If I upload a log file here will it help anything?

I'd better join official Old World Discord server, accept their rules first (necessary for uploading files) and post in technical chat.

Discord invite link: https://discord.com/invite/ryt59TVx

You can also make use of the Discord link on Steam shop for Old World, in case you don't trust mine.

Pretty sure, the devs will find out about the issue you experience and how to fix it. Good luck!

I am having similar issues with the game constantly crashing out. Unity windows comes up then disappears, or blue screen than back to windows with the game crashing out.

Less frequently I get a green screen hang and it reboots, which i suspect is my CPU getting too hot, but this doesn't happen that often.

Tried setting the CPU affinity but haven't found it helps much.

Just have the main game, no DLC or mods installed.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor
32GB RAM
AMD 5700XT GPU
Samsung SSD evo 970 1TB
WIN 11, latest update + on latest drivers and bios updates.

Kept an eye on CPU temps, crashing out between 63 - 88C, so yeah stock fan does need replacing & heat sink re doing this rig has been running since 2021, appreciate this might be contributing to the issues, room PC is in is kept at 18C, ambient CPU temp 50C

It does seem very random when it crashes, at times it will play all night with no issues, other times it will crash out a few turns in from loading or on the first end turn after loading.

I've also notices once it has crashed & I restart the game, its acts as if its lost my config settings (i lower the volume and its very loud again after a crash) the audio settings window shows where I had set the volume sliders but its ignored, the resume game option also disappears, it does hang & windows asks if I want to wait or close the game every time waiting for the file browser window to load so I can choose the saved game I want to play.

Currently playing Squirrel with a gun, Forza 5, Songs of styx, elite dangerous, I may get a green screen crash with these games 2 - 3 times a week but don't get the blue screen issues.

Will look at lowering CPU temps with a new fan but any other advice would be appreciated, I am too old & introverted for discord :P

The game is awesome but the crashes are driving me mad now.

My game freezes after about an hour and I can only hard reboot. No CTD, no BSOD, just frozen. Still in tutorial missions but I'm afraid that's not really going to be playable.

Also like many others, I play many, many other games (more demanding, too) without any kind of issue.

Also, sometimes, when quitting the game, Steam still thinks it's running and I have to click Stop ; and even then it remains stuck in Stopping until I quit Steam. And some other times, when clicking Play, the game executable isn't run. Never seen that happen with any other game before.

I have played Old World for a long time without issue. I recently upgraded my GPU and now the game crashes whenever I want to start a game. I can access all the menus, set up a game, etc., but the moment I try to start and it gets to the loading screen, that is when it crashes.

AMD Ryzen 5 5700X
16GB RAM
AMD RX 7600
Fedora Linux 41

Currently working on troubleshooting the issue, but no luck yet. Will update if I can figure something out.

Try deleting /Documents/MyGames/OldWorld/GraphicsOptionsSave.xml file to reset your graphics preferences. That might fix it.
