Is there much of an interest in MP via cloud? I think this game would rock playing MP turn by turn. I havent tried it but I am thinking each player would play their turns, then the computer would resolve the turns, and players would play their turn in no particular order in a wego sort of method????

not sure what the question is exactly... async-multiplayer or cloud multiplayer works like this - you log in, do your turn, the other players gets an email that now its his turn, they log in, do their turn, you get an email its your turn again, etc etc. if both of you (or however many are playing) are online at the same time you can switch from cloud to network and play at the same time

ok yeh that clears it up, but as to my first question, is there much MP going on? Is there a vibrant participation? When I looked I could only set up games via my friends unlike a lot of MP games that have a lobby of pending games and various methods of joining a game.

mh well, you will have to go to the discord to find players. i think people prefer to set up games there. i never found a radom open (non-password) lobby ingame

There is a lobby for Network games. You are unlikely to be able to join a lobby with random players though as most people organise games beforehand. There are a lot of cloud games going on but you will need to find players first. The organising-games channel on the Old World Discord is a good place to find people to play with - https://discord.gg/ajDUG9tAGm

So when you play via cloud its turn based but it sounds if you play online Network the game is realtime and everyone has to be online at the same time? Or is it still turn based?

if you play network everybody needs to be online at the same time... but its turn based nevertheless, because it is still a turn based game
This game, truly, shines in multiplayer, imho. Once one gets the mechanics/UI down, the game plays smoothly per turns; due, in part, to the Order's system.
Network via the server works great (apparently one can create their own server, as well) & 'lan' works great as well.
The game also offers the traditional 'hotseat' & all games are turn based; though there is a simultaneous mechanism offered for a number of turns, just never tried that.

I strongly recommend to read the game manual (starting at page 152), in case you want to know about all the options in multiplayer sessions. I.e. the host can (and I think should, if players start war against each other) switch the turn style in simultaneous sessions. The download link to the current Game Manual v 1.64 is to be found in Steam shop for Old World (to the right side, scroll down).

Just played a multiplayer game using Simultaneous turns...worked like a charm.
