Purging State Religions

My current State Religion is Roman Paganism and I have 'Orthodoxy' as a State Law, I can't figure out how to create a Roman Pagan Disciple to purge the other religions. Can anyone help me with this?

Only world religions have disciples. They are not available to pagan religions meaning purging isn't possible when your state religion is pagan. Orthodoxy's other bonus (hurry production with orders) works though.

A shortcoming in the game unfortunately, so I never see any point in going pagan as a state religion.

I'm pretty sure it is meant to portray paganism being replaced by more formalized religions historically in Europe and Middle-East, as in mechanic working as intended.

But before that Rome had Paganism as state religion and purged Christianity.

I was going to ask this same question but found this thread. This is a very odd design decision.....and I hope this will be changed or an option given to allow pagan disciples and purging.

I'm struggling with the religious system in this game in general....not sure how to balance the relations of the different religious heads since some of my cities have adopted other religions.

I forget, did national religions start with the Sacred and Profane DLC?

I was asking btw as a lead up to suggesting you could turn it off as a way of possibly addressing the issue raised by this thread.
