How to Choose Leader

How does one go about choosing or selecting or deciding their leader's at the beginning of the game male or female status?

For the set leaders/dynasties you can't change any of the leader's attributes.

However, in advanced setup change "Leader Archetype" to Pick Later, and then turn on "Allow Customized Leaders". Start the game. When you select your initial settler it will allow you to fully customise your leader.

Thank you. This was driving me nuts recently. I restarted about 20 times and got only 3 male leaders.

It took you 6 months to reply? XD You chose the leader when you start the game. They will always be the same gender, lol. If you want a female leader, you can chose to pick one. One of the DLC's opens up a lot more leader choices.
