I'm a Civ 5 fan and just got this game the other day. It ain't perfect, but I'm enjoying it a lot so far with mods.
Yes it's a bit hard to learn, especially for semi-experienced player who has played only one or two civ games.
(But some small mechanics/things are same as civ 4, :))
It's recommended that play the tutorials fist, but honestly for a player who familiar with 4X or strategy games, you could just start a normal/easy game to learn while playing. But don't ignore the popup-up tutorials.
And for very casual players (with patience), I think it's OK, just start a easy/semi-easy game, playing as a king/queen go to do quests(ambition victory) while experiencing the fun events of the game.
Edit: For #7. Yes it's not hard for experienced 4X players and hardcores, but there are a lot of light players nowadays who maybe just focus on smartphone games (or some games that I don't want to expand the topic) then want to try something new on PC but don't want to spend much time or energy, it's hard indeed for them.
However, mastering Ōld World will take up a lot of skill, patience, guile, and tactics to achieve victory. The Ōld World AI understands all of the game rules and it knows how to use them against you.
