Steam Audio

Physics Based Attenuation?
Can someone explain this feature to me? When it's on, things seem to have very, very sharp falloffs to the point of being almost useless. When it's off, there's almost no falloff- I have a thing 10,000 u away and I can still hear it even though it's nowhere near me.

I feel like I don't get what's going on- Help?

Check the settings of the Audio Source. What value for 'Spatial Blend' are you using? What type of 'Volume Rolloff' are you using?

@Stephan

  • When physics-based attenuation is checked, 1/r attenuation is applied, where r = distance between sound source and audio listener in meters.
  • When physics-based attenuation is OFF, no attenuation is applied whatsoever by Steam Audio. You are however free to apply any attenuation before or after Steam Audio. You can do this by changing the spatial blend of your Audio Source to 3D (as @WildCat is suggesting) and adjust the roll off that works for you
