Thank you for this! I am terrified of playing with lots of random people when I'm so new I don't even understand the controls or basic crafting yet. I would be nothing but a detriment to their community and couldn't handle the hatred I would rightfully receive. I'll play alone a bit until I know how to survive.
You won't receive any hatred. If people see you doing something wrong they will tell you the right way to do something. If the town is really struggling for food which is not often the case, they might not have time to teach you but don't take it personally. In established towns there is always people willing to help.
Just come play with us. Play the game the way it should be experienced as a community working together to build something for the next generation.
We were all new once, we had someone give a few minutes of their time to teach us a couple of jobs and we pay that forward.
Your reply was very kind, but this hasn't been my experience. Every time I was born into a civilization people were generous in that my mothers fed and clothed me. But nobody had time to really teach me anything. I kept saying I was new and asking for instruction of anything to do. People asked if I knew how to make pies, and when I said no they ... just didn't teach me anything. Or if they were trying to teach me it didn't happen in a way I could understand or replicate. I really was paying attention and trying my best, but was unable to see whatever they did or remember all the steps involved. There was no simple job I could throw myself into to be useful, and other than breast milk or berries I never even learned what foods I could eat.
The lack of ability to communicate easily with other villagers is a major drawback. The speed at which you starve to death, coupled with the scarcity of food and penalties for eating the same food often, mean this game is a real death trap for newbies.
I was okay with knowing I would die a lot while I was learning. I'm not okay with the fact that I JUST die a lot and am not learning.
There are plenty of guides in One Hour One Life forums. Also you should carefully take a look in food list, since it will be very vital when building up tech, especiallly if you decide to play alone.
