One Hour One Life

One Hour One Life

Mac Release
Are there any plans for an OS X release in the future?
Obviously with Cross-Platform Multiplayer I guess, in case it's going to happen.

The Mac version is available via the official website, same goes for Linux - http://onehouronelife.com/

The Steam version is PC only for the time being.

Both the Steam and the website version use the same servers and are identical.

yes, by buying it on steam you gain access to the prebuilt Mac and Linux builds via the official site (can also contact the dev).

The game is open source/public domain so you can compile it for any OS you want. You're mostly paying for access to official servers/support and to help the 1 single dev.

Thank you for your responses. It's good to know about the DRM-free version.

As someone who likes to keep track of the total hours played for each game, I'd still appreciate if these builds were available on Steam too, especially since they are available already, I guess that it wouldn't require too much additional effort to include them here as well!

Sadly, even supporting macOS at all is becoming difficult for indie developers. Just these last few weeks 10.14 broke so many things. Anyway, get your Mac on and play for now at least!

The version you get from Steam is DRM-free.

Anyway this is from Weekly Update #33:

One thing I should warn you all about is that the Steam release will be Windows-only for the time being. The build process is complicated enough, and the Mac platform is finicky enough, that I've decided not to tackle it for now. Come to think of it, the old Mac that I build the game on probably can't even run Steam, so I'd have no way to test it. And sadly, Linux on Steam is even less of a priority. In my experience, Mac and Linux users make up only a tiny sliver of the Steam audience anyway. The Mac and Linux builds will continue being updated off-Steam as usual, however (and anyone who buys the game on Steam will be able to access them). Hey, I'm typing this update message from Linux right now, so I'm a true believer, but I don't even have Steam installed on here.

Thanks for the additional info, I understand. And now that I think of it, the Steam-Mac version of "The Castle Doctrine" wasn't recording any time at all while running, so that might be the case here as well, either way.

Well, if you have a mac, how are you gonna play it if the website requires you to have at least played it once?

You don't have to play it at least once, if you buy it from the website you get an account and a mac build straight away.

are you planning on updating this to accommodate Mac iOS soon? I was really excited about this and was dissapointed to learn it's not compatible with my computer

You can buy the game and play it on mac, however you need a modded client to play as Jason isn't going to update the vanilla client for mac.

If you want to play you need to purchase through the main website:
http://onehouronelife.com/

then once you have your account information you need a modded client:
https://github.com/Awbz/OneLife/releases/tag/OneLife+_v361

Obviously you want the macOS.zip.

Place modded client in onehouronelife folder (rename it to OneLife to have it default launch the game via mod) then you'll be able to play.
