Genetic Fitness update
It seems like a nice update but really it plays out two ways:

if boy: literally semi afk eat until die of old age because not much you do can really help your sisters have more kids, sure a few extra yum might help but in the long run you cant really contribute much.

if girl: farm yum chain as high as possible and semi afk eat at a fire and hopefully your kids dont die.

This is pretty much how I now play ohol and im currently rank 2 for genetic fitness and feel like if I'm born again I could either lose massive points due to things out of my control (murders/deaths) or I could get really lucky and be born a boy with many sisters and afk to victory rank 1.

Ive been a female with very high yum chain only to have two kids which one died and other was new.

I initially tried to help the town by farming mass amounts of food and yum but it really doesnt change anything at all.

Genetic Fitness changed the way I play from 'what does the town need?' to 'does my immediate family have enough food to live to 60? and if so ill be getting points'.

I don't really care if a lineage/family or town lives on or not since Ive only ever gotten points from a grand nephew/niece and nothing after that which is enough to secure lots of points.

btw there should be a way we can rename our "genetic fitness" since random generated names (leader board) don't really have a sense of achievement eg how do I prove I am that random name in a list?

Is that kind of playstyle fun? For me it didn't change a thing. I still teach newbies, farm things that are needed, bring in resources that are needed and get higher tech. Now I just get a bonus on the side as I play.

The system just needs to be more complex. You should get fitness points for doing useful tasks (such as adding dirt to a languishing domestic gooseberry bush, adding a cooked egg to a plate, etc) and lose fitness for doing wasteful things (such as being idle for a set number of seconds, or waste food pips, etc).

But even as is, it's better than not having the system. We've always had people who afk around the town, but it's way less now.

The only problem I've really seen so far, is that people are keeping WAY more kids now, which quickly turns a town into a wasteland if food isn't taken care of. I've seen two towns turn to dust during my lifetime because of overpopulation.

While I disagree with what you said I do indeed think the system could use a rework,

I lost about 5 cousins due to starvation even though there was enough food for them to live. While this isn't an issue losing 10 whole points because of it feels ♥♥♥♥♥♥ when I lived to the age of 60.

Besides that I do agree with the system being easy to exploit but imo that's on you for valuing the genetic fitness number more than game-play.

The average lifespan of family lines seems to be a lot longer since the update, which means it's working and people are taking more care of their kids.

Two of the five longest every family lines ever are from after this update, and the average family lifespan seems to have gone up by ~10 generations.

Sure, some people might not care about genetic fitness, but so far it seems most do.

My biggest thing is genetic griefers. If I have a son, they just run and run and run so I cant catch them. So if I live to 60 and they live to 0.5 that take a negative 4 points off of my genetic score. I agree, it doenst change the way the game is played, but it just sucking being at 48 points, and then I have two sons born and just run away so I cant catch them them and taking me down to 40. Dont get me wrong though, I still love the ♥♥♥♥ out of this game!

Yeah it really sucks to get negatively dinged because your kids suck at life lol. You should really only get dinged 1 point if the kid is under 10 when they die. Otherwise as it stands, one of your kids goes afk or gets bitten by a snake right away, and you could live a perfect life yet still lose points. That's RNG nonsense, and should really be changed.

1) Make it so kids can't even move until they can feed themselves. They have to rely on their mother for food and movement. This way new babies can't just run off and die, and mothers have a chance to keep them alive long enough to feed them.

2) Make it so that you only lose points from a baby death if you don't feed the child. Once the baby is old enough to feed itself, you shouldn't lose more than 1 point if it dies, as that's on them.

Wait how do we see our points?

The game has assigned you a random name on the scoreboard. You can check this name as well as your score and rank via the genetic fitness tab in game.

You can check the leaderboards in the same way you access photos and family trees (there’s a tab on the official Ohol site).
