Clarification on skill tree upgrades

I am confused how the upgrades work - do they only apply to the redneck or does just the currently selected character get them? I noticed that the upgrades don't apply to all of the favors.

All upgrades apply to all characters, with the obvious exception of the ones which apply to the special skill or passive of a specific character.

I doubt this is the case. For example, the defense on Seth is close to 0 eventhough I have upgraded defense over 10 times.

It is the case. Max out the Defense node and Seth has over 30% Defense.

Different characters have different base stats. That's part of what makes them play differently. Seth starts out with much lower DEF, for instance. Sekhmet starts with low ATK. Neith starts out with higher Critical Chance than every other character.

Not really sure why you asked the question if you're just going to say "no you're wrong" when someone answers it.
