Also, did you get the Inte Apprentice Achievement? I seem unable to get that one :P
1. To get yourself killed, you have to fight the Wyrm Rider. The thing is, you need to have your gryphon with a high aggression but low health. This means when it tries to fight, it fails. Then you will be given a choice of sacrificing yourself for Neeris, or letting your gryphon take the fall.
2. As for the griffin killer achievement, after you are exiled, you must pick the option of Finding an egg of a wild griffin. Then, when you need to get the egg, you have the option of sedating the griffing (I know enough about herbs to make something to put her to sleep.) If your knowledge is low, you will poison it instead, and get the achievement.
3. The Killer Instinct Achievement is earned by spying on the Wyrm Riders plans. There is an option of jumping one of the soldiers. Choose this option, and if your Ruthless is high enough, I think it will allow you to kill the guard.
I still have not been able to get any apprenticeship. :-(
I was able to get the Warrior Apprentice one, and I will see what I came up with.
Anyways, further information on Self-Sacrifice:
By the way, I made a slight amendment to 1. above. I will be posting some more specific things, but your griffin needs to be aggressive, but in poor health. I'll list the other choices shortly below.
Note that also some different choices could work as well:
1. That's an enemy of Vaengrea! I fly up to fight.
2. We can't fight a wyrm head on. I'll retreat to a more advantageous position.
3. I take out my bow and ready an arrow. Now's my chance.
4. I beg for my life. (this is where you need a wounded, but aggressive griffin...the wyrm rider will attack.)
For self-sacrifice, pick:
I protect Neeris, even if it costs me my life.
To get Vaanret's Apprentice, you need to have your griffin die fighting the Wyrm Rider. Instead of sacrificing yourself, your griffin pays the price.
The choice is below (the other steps are the same as above)
I protect myself, even if it means losing Lostsong.
First thing you need to do is spy on the wyrm rider plans. This will let you know that there are some rebels about.
I don't think the choices matter, but this is the one I went with:
The council will want a full report. I'll cut a small hole in the fabric so I can see.
The next key part is with the Wyrm Rider you fight. Some of the other choices will probably lead you to him.
However, you definitely need to have a low aggression griffin, and you need to favor the thralls (not the Council)
1. We need to find cover or we're dead. I call a warning to Neeris.
2. He must be one of the rogues. If he is, he needs our help.
3. Sometimes, the best way to win is to seem to stop fighting. Thralls understand that.
With having a high Thrall, this makes you seem like no enemy...and of course, same with teh griffing.
You should be Ruthless, and your griffin needs to be Aggressive.
You also want to be favoring the Council instead of the Thralls here.
Once again, some of the other choices may work fine as it might just be flavor text.
This is after you finish your trial. I think any of the parts will work.
1. Dry recitation of facts, leaving nothing out.
2. "Set Lostsong against your gryphon, Councilor Nistarii. Then you'll see what she's made of." (This will earn her favor later)
With a high aggression, this will impress this councilor.
3. "My every act has been for the Empire."
4. My loyalty is to the gryphon keepers and the High Council. I want to be one of them.
With the Ruthless and the Council traits, this will allow this choice to pop up (otherwise something else would for a more wisdom flavored character)
5. Let us fight anyone who doubts that we're capable. I'll show them what we can do."
6. I stand at attention, as a gryphon keeper would. (I don't think this one is necessary, but it seems thematic enough).
Then as you go through the Epilogues at the end, the Nistari Apprentice Achievement will pop up.
You also need to have a very playful and friendly griffin that you can set against Inte's, so choose options to play and build loyalty. I don't think my griffin was particularly clingy in that playthrough so you probably don't have to worry about making the griffin's independence low. It might help though.
You will have to remain with the Empire, so no starting your own colony. In the playthrough I got the achievement, I opened the keepers up to thrall membership.
The rest is conjecture, but I believe you probably need to have a balance between thrall/empire and a high reputation level for Inte to take notice. But maybe I am wrong and it leans more Empire.
So basically be nice to everyone as you can, every chance you get, and don't worry about being a warrior or hunting. Probably stop to help the villagers in the burnt town, rather than search for supplies or soldiers.
I believe when I got this achievement, I had brought back the cure, but it may have also been the playthrough where I used my playful griffin to make friends with another so I could get an egg.
Editing to add, I think it's possible that your choice of where to raise your grififn may have something to do with what apprenticeships etc you can get. In the game where I got Inte's Apprentice, I believe I had put my griffin in the area (caves, or game warden's cottage, I don't remember) where the ground is marshy and poor for training. But the area is close by, so your griffin can get socialized, and has game to hunt etc.
I may be wrong--maybe the only way to do it is to kill a guard.
I can see that working :) However, I only listed the way I managed to get.
I still can't get the Inte Apprentice one (the diplomat) so I'm afraid I can't be much help there.
See above. I don't remember precisely what I did (sorry) but I did get the achievement.
I know you need a playful and loyal griffin, and you need high charm. You probably need a great reputation (so don't shirk work details to hatch your egg) and I tend to want to help everyone so I think I had a near-even balance of thrall vs. empire.
I've noticed in some playthroughs my griffin is better socialized than others, regardless whether I choose to socialize it with other griffins. I'm not sure how much independence matters when trying for this achievement, because it mostly seems to be the measure of your griffin's ability to be independent from the rider. I think at least once I've had a low-independence griffin who wasn't clingy with the rider. But I may be mistaken.
Definitely when they ask you to show what your griffin can do, have your griffin (who needs to be playful and loyal) approach Inte's. It probably helps to approach Inte for help in that first scene, while choosing the keepers to help you with your kit when it hatches (so you can have your kit socialize with others of its kind). I'm not sure if having the thralls play with your kit helps as much.
I wish I could remember better--I was a bit surprised when I got the achievement to be honest.
I did do all the above, including approaching Inte to help with Eini. I just can't seem to figure ou what the end results are needed.
Try avoiding fights wherever possible. It's possible I'm mistaken and I spied on the wyrmriders that playthrough, then had a friendly chat with the deserter. All I know for sure is that I was as friendly as I possibly could be in that playthrough and spent inordinate amounts of time making my griffin be adorable.
FYI, playing pounce and tussling have different results, and you may want to have your griffin sit and reflect with you. Never tussle! Also be sure that you only ride your griffin when you're sure it's in good health.
It's entirely possible that the breed of griffin you choose might have some bearing on it. I may be wrong, but I think in that playthrough I had a rook griffin.
I can't try replaying tonight, but maybe later in the week I can give it another run and see if I can get the achievement again. Then I can let you know what I did to get it.
By the way, have you tried having both high charm and compassion? I forgot about the compassion stat. You absolutely won't be a good diplomat if you are aggressive!
*grins* Yep, I pretty much did what you said. High Charm, High Compassion, no aggression...take the middle path (such as going with Ipsu, etc.)
And there is no reason for you to play it again on my account. I have a feeling I'm just missing some minor, but key moment or two.
Did another playthrough with it, and nothing came of it. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions, but I think I'm just going to leave it be.
