I doubt they can do much with it, it does the same also on Windows, the terrain detail seems pretty performance demanding (while all it does is just more bumps on the terrain, which isnt that important for almost anything, it can even ruin some mission when set on very high), I doubt there will be any pc that can handle 5k view distance & very high terrain detail anytime soon, but you can try how much your pc can take, just put view distance on minimum (500) and set terrain detail to very high, and then try increasing your view distance to the point where fps is unbearable.
Mouse feels bit better on 4:3 aspect ratio.
