My review of Visage - A walking simulator with repetitive events, it's a chore.
This is a P.T. game on a budget. The following feedback is for the devs.

First, I just want to say that I looked for ways to send my feedback to the devs but it seems there isn't a very obvious method so I hope this feedback reach the devs.

The first hour of the first chapter was really horrifyingly shivers inducing. However, towards the end of the final chapter, it seems rushed and the atmosphere becomes a bit bland with very basic mapping (blocky rooms with little attention to atmosphere).

I played Chapter 2 (Delores) yesterday and unfortunately, the mechanics of the game become more of a chore after playing chapter 1. I'll make it simple:

- The random events like lights turning off become boring and have no horror value to it. As soon as a light turns off I just go and flick the light back on without even fearing anything, it became far too common. I started going to the switched off TV and switching it on purposely to avoid the random event that almost always happens that drains sanity. So I just do it before the random event happens. The events became boring, a chore and takes away from gameplay

- The hand mechanics are very clunky, I hope you're working on them. Shuffling items between hands and having to drop items manually rather than automatically helping the player do it, is just plain annoying.

- Sanity needs rework. Amnesia devs said they didn't add sudden death or "events" with decreased sanity because it takes away from the experience. But you guys did the exact opposite, and not very well, as those events became boring.

- The chore of walking around the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ house.....I now memorised the house more than my own. Walking is so slow, and I spent the Dolores chapter in a walking simulator. You travel for so long just to retrieve an item back and forth, back and forth that it really became hectic. I spent the last hour pushing through just to see the ending, I wanted to quit. The game stopped being horror at this point.

- Not knowing where to go. How the hell am I expected to know what to do next? It's just all about going everywhere (walking simulator) until you hit a trigger for an event, or a new room. There is no indication what to do next, where to go, and what is expected. Some things were obvious, like we figured out that the baby rotating toy required all pieces for some story event, but the compass, breaking mirrors, and damn I forgot what else (not even memorable...). I got lost so many times that I had to use a youtube walkthrough to figure it out. And it was always like "Oh ♥♥♥♥ really??!! It was right there? How would I know??!" There is a fine line between engaging the user and frustrating them. Dont get me started on that maze with stairs and doors....How on earth are we supposed to know which door works? A simple hint of light would have sufficed..

- The event of the ghost appearing suddenly and twitching was done far too many times. Every time the lights start blinking I just fluster and a say "man here we go again...". I Just ran backward and a few corridors left and right, then done, take the same path back like nothing happened.

- Missed opportunities. I can't count how many times a certain part of the game I said "man they missed an opportunity here". For example, the small cemetery map had so many opportunities for a creepy event (no need for jump scare cheap shots). Like a man looking from the distance, or something crawling between the graves....So many opportunities in other places as well.

- Indicate when an item is not needed. I carried the camera all the way through Delores chapter and it was never really needed. Tell us that we can empty an extra slot just like how RE7 did it.

- The human models could you some work. The grandma face and hair were like Xbox 1 characters.

- There were other points I wanted to highlight but to be honest, I forgot them unfortunately. Some parts were just not that memorable.

----

I'm not going to talk about the amazing graphics, atmosphere and sound effects, along with any other glitches because I hope you get enough of such feedback.

I did enjoy the first few hours of the game (First chapter), especially that I didn't know what to expect. Before all the events became too repetitive and boring, it was really fascinating and I thought this could beat P.T. The first time we got the camera and scribbles on the wall appear with it... That was damn horrifying. I really wish the game could keep that atmosphere and not be a walking simulator with the chore to turn lights, TVs and breakers back on.

I hope this reaches the devs, I want this game to be successful.

You do realize that the game is finished, right? Full release is within the next three months. What you see and played is what you get. Don't know if they plan to support Visage after the full release. Read their last update.

This is far from being PT but that's the first thing that comes to peoples minds when they see first person horror games. OMG it must be PT. First person in a house. OMG it must be PT. You know what PT is .. right? PT is not a game. It is a playable teaser that is literally one hallway that repeats over and over and over again w/small differences while Visage is a game that actually exists, is available, and has a full story to it. PT has very lil story much of it is left to the player for interpretation.

Before you start playing the game you are told that Visage is hard. Patience through investigation, and good resources management are your best friends. There are indications on what to do next. This game leaves you trails/bread crumbs to follow. Some people don't think and lack common sense while they are playing. They forget about the 'patience through investigation' part. My only complaint is that they should of at least informed the player that the table vice could be used in the garage to help solve puzzles.Other than that, they don't give a damn that you got lost so many times. It's a hard game.

Why would you continue to hold on to the camera after finishing Lucy's chapter? The camera is given to you because the majority of her chapter is played in the dark. No reason to continue to hold on to camera if you can turn the lights on. Again.. common sense.

I do agree w/some of your points.

Mostly perfectly legit and well written complaints. I disagree with most (I love the doors and lights and think the atmosphere is top notch) but the controls are really bad.

However you're wrong about there being no direction. They tell you in the beginning you're going to have to pay attention and solve puzzles and look for clues. And yes, all major triggers DO have environmental clues leading you right to where you have to go.

I think you just don't get this game! Not every game is made for everyone, this one might just not be for you!
