The game is in Early Access, which means that it is not finished yet and everything you mention is already underway.
I'm not sure. I hope you're right. But I get the feeling they're more concerned about bugs and performance issues.
It seems like every time they mess with the User-interface it gets worse, so we might not be able to expect a perfected inverntory and object interaction
That being said, I think these things are a much smaller issue than they seem to be to other people. My main thing is still just bugs, difficulty and replayability.
I can't see why they couldn't fix it from the start. Several games have already perfected it.
Left click to pick up into your inventory
Right click to hold and rorate with mouse + WASD
Once in your inventory, click on it and have either use, examine, or drop
It's that simple. Period. It's been perfected for many years.
As this is Early Access, they can test different schemes of controls and listen the opinion of the users.
When the complete game releases, don't worry, I'm sure the controls will be updated and possibly customized.
