Visage
This game isn't scarying me and that's sad.
Trust me when I say I really, really, want to get scared. I mean what's the point of playing horror games if I don't get scared? I don't know if it's because of my age or knowing a lot of the s*** in horror media isn't real. I'm in my 20s so I guess age has a lot to do with it too. Any tips to make my self get scared? I have my lights off playing in the dark. I even have $1000 audiophile headphones “Sennheiser HD 800S” to give me the best accurate audio experience, but even still I’m not feeling the spooks. I'm also playing on a $2000 monitor "ASUS PG27UQ" I wonder if playing this game in VR will have a more impactful experience? Maybe I should get an HTC Vive.

This is depressing :( Honestly, I like horror movies and games, but I don't feel like I’m getting the full experience or money's worth by not being a scared little sissy. I love Silent Hill for the PS1 and Resident Evil. Those 2 games really freaked me out when I was young. I liked Alien Isolation even though it didn’t have the same impact those 2 PS1 games gave me when I was little. I bought Visage hoping I would get scared. I love jump scares when they do happen, I love the adrenaline rush! I want a lot of that to be frank. I want to be sacred sh!tless. Honestly, the only thing that spooked me was "In the tree house with all the drawings on the wall with the entity and little girl. After you get the key behind one of the drawings and open the little chest, that man starts talking and something paranormal will start happening. If you go up to the window in the treehouse it will barricade itself." That unexpectedness of the window barricading while walking up to it gave me a jumped scare. That's the only time I got spooked so far. Even that entity girl who kills you didn't even scare me when I first encountered her. [/spolier]

It's not age, just, not everybody is sensitive to the same kind of horror.
Personally, this was the most horrifying game I've ever played, on my first playthrough, mostly due to the audio.

Try turning the audio as loud as you can stand. I find that Visage doesn't have loud jumpscares so you can put the atmospheric audio way up there, which is what makes it so good. Also I play with the brightness nearly all the way down and I recommend that too.

Actually getting killed is never really that scary, but the amazing use of darkness and audio is what makes this game incredible to me. It's not about jumpscares, while there are a few and they're good, the game is mainly about atmosphere.

Also I'm hoping they add a harder difficulty mode, because when you learn the mechanics it gets super easy and less scary but that can be changed by future patches.

Yeah I have the brightness completely down. Also, having HDR support would really add to the atmosphere of the game. I just wonder if I bought a VR headset it would add more scare.

Everything definitely is scarier in VR. But this game has been scaring me pretty well even without it. The biggest thing is the audio, so make sure it's as loud as it can be.

Also I play with a controller which makes it really enjoyable to play, maybe try that :)

Oculus Rift user here.
In VR, horror games shine; even those that you see in a monitor and think "seems so simple and not scaring" (like Dreadhalls for example).
If this game is well optimized and add motion controllers when it releases in VR, will be one of the better games if not the best.

I'm like you, love horror games but nothing scares me. I play with headphones and complete darkness, but nothing... My brain is too rational and analytic.

But you know what?
It doesn't prevent me from enjoying the experience, especially when it has abstract and symbolic touches.
And this game has true potential to be a good one.

Dreadhalls is the stupidest looking game ever and my GOD is it terrifying and all because it's in VR.

OP, there's nothing wrong with not finding this game scary. Horror is subjective. Regrettably this game simply isn't for you.

If this game doesn't scare me don't you thing no other game would? This is suppose to be the scariest game in years! Maybe if the game supported HDR and VR it will add to the experience. I have an HDR monitor "ASUS PG27UQ" and games shine in HDR! Shouldn't be hard to implement either, Unreal Engine 4 and even Unity 5 have it already. Devs just have to enable it.

I just played Monstrum in VR and almost had a heart attack, and I thought the pancake version was scary..... Horror in VR is so immersive.

Horror is completely subjective. What scares one person doesn't scare another.

The game will support VR at some point during Early Access, the devs have already confirmed it.
As I said before, a good horror game in VR is another world compared to the most scary monitor horror game.

Once you tried it, playing normal horror games on a monitor/TV is just a relaxing safe zone.

I think the game actually does/will support HDR, as these settings exist in the config file:

bUseHDRDisplayOutput=False
HDRDisplayOutputNits=1000

I need to hookup to my HDR display and see if it works.

2 things that make me cringe during this whole post.

A. The look at how much money I have...

B. Calling people who do get scared sissy's... but in the same line claiming that he wants go get scared.

Age is nothing in being scared some cant stand movies like scream, other get scared of Paranormal Activity type things. What you are fearfull of is becoming a sissy.

The sissy part is just a figure of speech. I want to be scared shítless when playing this game. So scared that I wouldn't even want to fire the game up. The "sissy" part is just me saying how scared I want to be.

And this thread is actually kind of pointless now besides the HDR and VR talk. I actaully jumped alittle while ago and it was a good one. This game can scare! I guess I judged to early before getting where i'm at now in game. WOW, I definitely would love to experince this game in VR now and even have my freind play it! Looks like i'll need to be getting a VR headset.

Yeah..... Don't waste you time. Just because it's in the config doesn't mean the game has it implemented. Setting bUseHDRDisplayOutput=Enable and enabling HDR WCG in Windows Display settings does nothing. Firing up the game results in my "ASUS PG27UQ" switching back to SDR. Same thing with Fortnite. Both games have the setting in the config but because the games don't support HDR it doesn't work. Sad to say this. The support is there in Unreal Engine 4, devs just have to enable it. This game will look even more outstanding with HDR and painful too. The camera flash really bothers me as is, having HDR would make the flashes even more bright, like holy shít! HDR would really beneift the lighting in this game. There are alot of lamps and lights and HDR would definintly make them pure white. Having 1000nits flash in front of your eyes when using the camera flash would be really painful, but i'd still love to have HDR anyways.

I ended up deleting my post pointing out his "Look at how much I spend".
Didnt want to start anything.
Some of us spend a lot on our systems but dont find the need to put the dollar amounts alongside. Quite douchey.

Op you need VR. I kinda don't scare too easily playing a horror game, but try it in VR and it is a completely different feeling. It is so immersive. It will scare the crap out of you. Nearly had a heart attack playing Emily wants to play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDz98AH7BDY
