PixARK

Can't afford to keep paying to have my computer fixed :(
Last week my computer kept going to a black screen. I could still hear the fans blowing but the computer shut everything else down. The only thing I could do is a hard reset.

I did this several times after verifying files and restarting my computer until finally some files on my computer became corrupt. I took my computer to a tech guy and he said that if this is only happening when I play Pixark, it is definitely a problem with the game.

Tonight, after a week at the pc doctor, I started up Pixark again and after about 20 minutes, I got the black screen again. I was on the computer for several hours before I tried Pixark and everything else seems to run fine, it is only Pixark that causes my computer to fail.

Because I have seen others post, I do know that there are other people having this problem and it isn't only me so, Snail Games, please fix this.

PROTIP: If it only happens with your PC and not the vast majority of people then the problem is most likely your PC. One of your PC component might be dying.

You happen to be using an AMD FX processor?

This might not have anything to do with causing black screens, but I know that PixArk doesn't default to having Vsync on, and so tries to squeeze out more FPS than is needed to play. Even just sitting on the main menu, I noticed my computer heating up and fans blaring.

So I'd at least first recommend manually turning on Vsync and see if that helps at all, if you haven't already. I believe you have to add the line in one of the config files to turn it on, since there doesn't seem to be an option for it in-game.

After enabling Vsync, I noticed a large drop in my computer's temps while playing PixArk. Though I apologize if this doesn't affect your issue at all.

Edit1: I'm also using an AMD FX processor, and only have 8 gigs of RAM, but my PixArk is running fine. Unless I use shadow leopards, and then it causes a massive memory leak, and I have to force close the game, but that's a different issue entirely.

Edit2: I don't have OP's problem; I'm just throwing out hopefully helpful advice.

I'm using an AMD FX processor, never had a crash with PixArk. I have longer load times than my brother with his much crappier computer for some reason though..

I don't think it is happening with the vast amount of people but I have been seeing others complain of the same thing happening to them. My tech guy checked all of the components and couldn't find anything wrong with anything except I had corrupted some files from starting my computer over and over too many times. SSDs don't like to be hard stopped and started but it was the only thing I knew to do to get my computer to come back on.

I have just uninstalled PixArk and reinstalled it again and after 13 minutes the game went to black screen. I am able to play Ark Survival Evolved with no problem and I would think that would impact my machine more than PixArk.

I will check about the vsinc thing. I do know that my computer is showing 150 to 200 fps when I am in game which is very weird. I don't think I ever see more than 50 fps when I play any other games.

Yeah, that's waaay too much FPS, and is likely causing your computer to overheat. Whether or not that is also causing the black screens is beyond me, but it's certainly not helping either.

My daughter has the same computer and she is not getting the same amount of fps that I am.
She is averaging around 80 fps. What would cause one computer to have so much more fps than another?
I am definitely going to look into the vsync thing and figure out how to add that in.

Your GFX is shutting down because of the heat. Next time start Park and when it crashes check the GFX card temperature or have a monitor running along to see temperatures. I know my card is overheating, but my potatoe can handle it :).
And the vsync option is in the ini, just turned off.

Now my FPS are nicely capped to 60, hope it fixes it for you.

You guys have been so helpful. I am going to try this and hopefully it might help someone else.

try changing or lowering your video settings and put vsync on. It sounds like it might be overheating your pc for some reason.

this is almost undoubtedly the problem, and should have been something your tech guy told you about.

Capping framerate is a bandaid fix if overheating is the problem. You need to make sure your card is properly regulating its own heat. I have no idea how Radeon does this, but with nVidia there is an app and you simply set a temperature target and it will clock itself to never go over that.
