There are definitely some balance issues on the PvP side but I don't stress that too much at the beginning of early access.
There are a few critical bugs such as losing your bar & gear sometimes when you die (you're not supposed to) but they are aware and working on them.
There are some bugs but overall a very good experience.
Don't read too much into negative reviews. Ark has always been a game about patience and a lot of these people who play for a few hours only either don't know how to progress, or can't deal with the survival aspect of the game which is a big part of Ark. Sure Ark always has bugs, but they're not bad enough that makes the game unplayable. The negative reviews on the other hand from players who do put in a lot of hours are just a result of being salty from dying constantly lmfao.
What you're trying to say is that none of the negative reviews are justified, and that's simply not true. Accept the fact that there are issues with the game and that some people will not have a good experience with it, instead of trying to brush them off as salty or casuals.
As for OP, the game is fairly solid. The biggest low of the game right now, in my opinion, is the map. It's procedurally generated, meaning that it's entirely random and right now there are no ways to influence or control what your map generates. On top of that, it is finite and quite small, which leads to some maps missing biomes entirely. That can really screw the game up, as the zones aren't all the same difficulty- Some biomes are clearly meant for endgame, and many will have unique resources and creatures that you'll miss out on if you get a bad seed.
You end up having to make a new map over and over until you get one that is good, which could take you two minutes, two hours, two days, etc. It's completely random.
The highs (again, just in my opinion) is that it has certain mechanics from both Ark and Minecraft. If you enjoy tunneling through the world and enjoy voxel-style games, then this hits that nail on the head. The creature taming of Ark is currently really wonky, it needs more balancing, but it adds an enjoyable element to the game. It's got tech and magic, though if you want to do magic, you'll have to grind levels first.
Your best bet is to find a good private server, log on with some friends, and enjoy the hell out of it.
I always stick to private servers because on almost every game I've played the official servers are just laggy and full of griefers and stuff.
If you've ever played ARK, this game is hella frustrating because ♥♥♥♥ don't make sense.
There's a ton of stuf that just makes you want to smash your head into the keyboard.
Pro: You can pick foundations and walls up without having to destroy them.
Con: That's all you can pick up. Also some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ decided that E (the key that you do EVERYTHING WITH) picks up stairs. So you can't use stairs unless you like putting them back down everytime you get off your dino.
Pro: You can put your dino in pokeball things and store them
Con: Again, some idiot decided that plaim old "E" means OPEN ALL THE BOXES instead of "open inventory" and your base just gets filled with all your stored dinos.
Pro: There's magic.
Con: Zombie hearts don't drop so you never get to use cool magic.
Con: Someone wanted to do temporary tames. As in, you tame a thing and it stops being yours after 3 days. They don't have this in game not because the company thinks it's a bad idea, but because of negative feedback.
So beware, this company has a few screws loose.
