Tips, Tricks, and Guides for taming Ghost Dragons and T.Rex.
So I decided to compile some information about the game in General, How to level up quick, and stuff about taming various creatures i've learned. Anyone who wants to pitch in information is welcome! :)
Any requests to find stuff out, or methods for taming things will be answered.
So here we go.

Starting out
  • Make a simple shelter. You don't really want to start doing fancy stuff until you can reliably get stone.
  • Exploring is not overly reccomended, unless you're surrounded by endless grassland. Even then you have to watch out for Dilos and Coyotes at low levels.
  • Coal, Copper, Sulfur, and Flint are all important, if you find these take note, take some back to your chosen shelter and hoard it.
Leveling Up
  • Leveling at the moment is fairly easy, if you know what you're doing.
Dig a 5X5 pit that is 5 blocks deep. (From there customize it as you see fit, but nothing in the game except for Sauropods and anything that flies can escape this pit.)
Use a bow and Arrows, or a Spear (I reccomend the bow, it does more damage.) and shoot the trapped critters until dead. Then repeat.
  • If you're in a starter zone where you find wild creatures going passive to your existance you can tame a phiomia, or a pachy and use those to lead creatures into your pit. Creatures will not attack you, but they will attack your tames.

Misc Tips
  • You can Dig your way under Trappa plants to kill them, they can't shoot straight down.
Don't mess with the spore plants, digging under them won't save you, and they will one-shot you and any animal you're on. (I've learned this from painful, painful experience.)

Useful Tames

Starter Beasts
(Before level 10)
  • Coyotes
Can be ridden and kill small beasts like Phiomia and Dodos. Harvests more Meat and Leather.
  • Dilos
Super slow, but their spit slows their targets.
  • Pachy
Literally only good for carrying stuff and riding, but they're faster than a player and can provide some protection (Or rather a distraction) while you make a get away.
  • Firefly
Provides a decent amount of light, and sits on your shoulder. Make sure you keep it fed though!

None of these creatures will survive long, they are low teir with low stats.
Unless you hide them in your home, which even then isn't a guarantee since creatures can attack through walls.

FlyersPteranodon and Pegasus are both realatively easy to tame and are starter flyers for their respective classes. (Magic and Normal) Fairy Dragons have a similar run mechanic to the Pegasus, but they require a saddle to ride (level40). They take as many arrows as a Pegasus to knock down.
  • A Pteranodon will take one normal Sleepy Arrow (As of right now) fly for a moment then fall to the ground unconsious. Pteranodon Saddle unlocks at level 20.
  • Pegasus will take 2-4 Magic sleepy arrows and fly quickly. Pegasus (or Pegasi?) Do not need saddles. They also generate natural light from their horns and carry more than a Pteranodon. They will also gather meat, Leather, and Fur better than a player.
You can watch the pegasus fly away until it's out of render distance then follow it, by that point it won't be running anymore.

    Argentavis and Gryphons
  • Argentavis are Mid teir flyers, they get a saddle at level 45 under Metallurgy. Argents are good on weight carry and Stamina but they're slower than a Ptera or Pegasus.
    Level up weight or Melee
  • Gryphons are a mid to high teir flyer, they have great weight carry and unlock their saddle at level 60. (10 levels before the Rex, and 20 before the Ghost Dragon)
Level up Melee and they can kill Rexes, Sauropods, Werewolves, ect. (Have not had the chance to test them on Cyclopse, but anything under Rex Teir is fair game for these things.)
Not recomeneded to use them against monsters with the [ruins] tag in their tame, as those monsters are much harder to kill.
    Ghost Dragons
Useful at any level, as they make good base defense. (For PVE, I don't know about PVP)
Unlocks the saddle at level 80.

    Berry Gatherers
  • Parasaurs, you can unlock their saddle at level 10. Unlike in Ark, they actually do move quite quickly, and can carry a decent ammount of weight. They are a high low teir creature, and will be killed quickly against any mid-sized carnivore. (Raptors, Terror Birds, Wolves)
  • Triceratops, you can unlock their saddle at level 30. Slow movement, but they can carry a bit more than a parasaur and harvest marginally better. They are a low mid-teir creature, but are not good for fighting as they have low stamina. It's best to keep them around for harvesting and carrying goods.
    Land Mounts
  • Procoptodons, you can unlock their saddles at level 40. They have the mad hops, and by that I mean their jump distance is amazing. They're fast, and while in the air from a jump they don't lose Stamina.
You can also carry another player in their pouch, and while the Pteranodon and Gryphon can both carry players too, the Procoptodon is faster than a Gryphon and doesn't need to stop as often as a Ptera for stamina.
The only downside to theses amazing critters is they can take fall damage, so be careful where you jump to and give them a rest every once in a while.

Taming

Ghost Dragons
Ghost Dragons eat Meat, or Pegasus Egg Kibble.
  • Cage Method
Build a Cage that is 9wide, 9high, and 10long. (Screenshots of my design.)

    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1348522739

To Lure the Dragon into the cage you'll want another Flyer. (Pteranodon are reccomended because they're small and fast) Fly into the cage while the dragon is following you, then fly out the smaller hole on the other side. Make sure the dragon is caught, and land just out of it's bite distance.
Once the Dragon is in the cage and aggroed to your flyer, go around behind it and block the dragon back up.
    Important!!!
do NOT let the dragon out of your sight, it will glitch out of the cage.
    (Not sure why)

  • Gryphon Method (Thanks to Void)

    T.Rex
Rexes are High teir tames, getting their saddles at level 70. They can be used as base defence or an attack animal before that though.
Taming a Rex with a bow and Sleepy Arrows IS possible, but it takes many many sleepy arrows. Testing this out on the server I play on, the Rex only takes 4 damage from a bow and sleepy arrows, which is why it's so hard to bring down.
Using a Rifle with Sleepy Darts is reccomened.

Thank you for the information, Thorhof!
  • Cage Method
[/b]
Build a Cage that is 10wide, 10long, and 5 high. Add blocks to the outside to make a Ramp for the Rex. (This can be done on all sides, or just one.)

Again, you can lure the Rex into the cage on foot, or you can do it with an animal.

For the opening in the dragon cage you can make it 2 wide and a ptera will still be able to get out, found this out cos I'd built an argent trap with a 3 wide gap which worked most of the time but occasionly the argent would glitch out (might have something to do with not keeping it in view while landing the ptera? need to go and test that since you mentioned dragons escaping) anyway I closed the gap down to 2 wide and can still get out no problem.

Thanks so much for the reply! :)

Any chance we could get a screenshot of your dragon trap? I'm having trouble visualizing it. Also, do you have any estimate for how many magic sleepy arrows are needed?

Thank you for the write up and info.

Ahh these things are great. Honestly, the only thing i've seen come close to killing a tamed ghost dragon thus far is a reaper, and thats because a reaper has an insane turn radius.

What you need to do is build a cage for the spooky flying danger noodle.
--Build out of Dirt or Stone because these can't be damaged at the moment.
--Build it ten pillars high, and five pillars long in a box. There need to be two empty squares between each pillar.
--At one end of the box leave it open, at the other end it needs to have a three block open square for a Ptera to fly through.
--Slap a roof on that sucker so it can't just fly over the pillars.
--A level 1 Ghost Dragon took about 20 Magic Sleepy arrows, bring at least 100 to be safe for any level.

Screenshots were made in creative mode, since the server I play on hasn't updated to 1.5 yet.
I built it all as though I were in Survival, using the jump and place block directly below trick.

lure them in with a ptera

If you have a griffin, you can put a dragon to sleep without any trap. Land your griffin, passive, make sure the dragon is on it. The turning radius of the dragon is so bad it will fly in circle without dealing any damage to your tame. Tamed 2 without issues today.

When doing dungeons (especially with coyotes) place dirt blocks 1 block up in the doorways. The mobs can not break them or get under/over them allowing you to shoot and stab from a crouch behind them. Allows even low levels to kill them and get the better loot (the upper floor is the only one you need to break a block to get into after killing the mobs)

The Griffins are not like in Ark, you do need a saddle for them, how ever you don't need a saddle for the Pegasus.
A ptera of any level can be taken down with two sleepy arrows in the face. Provided you're quick they wont get the chance to fly off.
Glow Bugs are your best friends. (I always carry one.)
Get used to dieing.
Do NOT mess with Werewolves. They will mess you up, these suckers are fast and strong and will kill every one of your tames just by breathing on them. Then they'll come for you.

--Best way i've found to level so far is this;
Find either a magic forest, or dark forest biome near by and dig a pit. This pit needs to be at least four blocks down, and should have one block spaces between so you can stab things through them. Lure beasties into this pit and stab them between the blocks to kill them in safety.
.

Actually, I knock down a ptera of any lvl w/ one sleepy arrow to the face.
