How to find quartz?

I cannot find quatz to make the ore detector. Where would I find some?

I found some when I dug all the way down to bedrock level. So deep underground.

In my game, I also found it quite deep underground, but I've also a huge deposit on the surface in a desert biome.

you find them in the desert area they look like silver ore when u mine them
