Mining and Ore
Anyone have any data on where certain ore, etc are found?

For instance, I am looking for sulfur. Would I find that in the desert biome or are all ore items at a specific level underground?

Are ores biome specific or depth specific or both?

Y 50 seems to have the most iron along with a good mix of other stuff.

The sulfur is found fairly frequently underground as well. Also if you find an above ground vein it can sometimes be massive.

Not sure if biomes affect anything but Y level definitely affects frequency of things.

I found an above ground copper vein, which was massive like you said. I simply got tired of mining it and had to head back to base. =P It was in a jungle biome, but I am not sure if that matters.

Is this similar to minecraft where you just build a large underground tunnel until you start hiting nodes?

Normally i just dig a few blocks into the stone and then tunnle forward (carefully in case i break out the side of a canyon( and i come across a lot of copper and coal. i'm sure if i went a little deaper i'd find iron. So it's not too hard but it does take a lot of time with a stone pick. x_x

Not 100% sure but biome seems to affect veins. I saw multiple clusters of sulfur + quartz in the swamp biome, and some mountains in the snow biome are made of iron + silver. If anyone can confirm they found something similar, we should be able to build a per biome ore formations link.

Aye. I have a copper one, and I can kill a stone node in one hit. I get the drill at 35...not sure how good it is, but I may wait for that till I dig a tunnel. =P

That would be very helpful, as I can not find information about this on the net yet.

The biome definitely affects the veins. I have also found mountains essentially made of iron, but in the Golden Realm.

those veins you can see from above within the different biomes are labeled as "mines" in the map generator, and, are indeed, biome specific. Other than that you can find every ore everywhere, you just have to dig, sometimes, a lot. The museum gives a rough overview on which depth to look.

For the mines, as far as i can tell:

Coal in grasslands
Copper in mountain forest
Iron, coupled with silver in frozen lands and golden realm as hills
Sulfur in swamp
Quartz in desert
Silver mine in doomlands
