Leveling and Difficulty Curve
So I've gotten to the part of the game where you can walk on water and the difficulty ramped up hard.

Before i attempted the quests I was underleveled compared to the what the board said. I went ahead and tried them after I was done with clearing my level range of caves. I found them really easy, despite being several levels under them. I have even been able to clear caves several levels above me.

Now I'm stuck fighitng the Water Dragon and he is just too tough. I could probably do the fight with patience, but it would take a long time. Something just feels off to me.

I understand that I did things above my level, but they were really easy. Now the game hits you with a brick wall. Am I supposted to just grind the overworld? I'm out of caves and quests, so I feel kind of stuck.

Hmm, the second dragon is weak to magic and strong against physical attacks. Try casting freezepaw to slow him down, and zap him with lightnyan for massive damage.
(Btw, do you know how to tell if an enemy is weak to something or not?)

If you've cleared the quests leading up to the second dragon, you should be just the right level, or at least close enough to have a fighting chance. :)

When the damage number are red, correct?

I don't have the lightning spell yet. I may go hunt that down. I'm really bad about remembering I have magic!

Well, now that you have water walking, there may or may not be something down south.

The ice dragon is probably my favorite part of the game because he's the first really meaty challenge. Up until then, you can get away with just mashing attack until the enemy falls over, but this guy is the first one who requires tactics. Bait-out his spells, bait his normal attack, then charge-in with a Flamepurr and get a couple melee combos before his next melee attack comes in. If you line yourself up horizontally with him, you can spam-off a few Lightnyans while you're comboing him and his health will just melt.

My strategy for him was to alternate between heavy damage attacks (as stated above), and mana-regen phases where I just melee to refill for my next salvo. If you don't get greedy with attacks and be mindful that his regular attack goes-off FAST (so you have to bait it and duck out before attacking), then he shouldn't get many hits on you. I was able to beat him at Level 40, and I didn't have the ability to open golden chests for some of the better gear options yet.

Also, if you travel to the southwest area of the map, there's a mage tower alone on an island that gives you a short-term buff for your melee attacks. Using that right after the Flamepurr makes your melee attacks absolutely unforgiving. I didn't have that spell for this boss, but if you're having a hard time with him then I recommend picking-up that spell and getting used to comboing it with Flamepurr.

Ah that may be why you're having difficulties then. XD
This dragon resists physical attacks, so you're probably not doing enough damage fast enough.

And Shiro's tactic for this boss fight is spot on, we couldn't agree more. :D

I actually had no problem with the boss. Somehow, though, I had trouble with the quests prior. If you have problems later in the game, I highly recommend the ice spell. Lightnyan serves you well for a while, but you'll find that the ice spell and the spell that steals life in an X are much more useful.

My feedback on this: I found the Water Dragon a little frustrating and I nearly stopped playing at that point. Difficulty-wise, this boss felt out of place and over-tuned. I think the delay between telegraphing and executing the melee attack is too short. I did beat it by kiting it, and running off to get mana from mobs in the area, but it wasn't a fun encounter to me. Then again, I don't enjoy running away and kiting in ARPGs. :)

I feel really silly now. I leveled up my ice and fire spells and just kept enemies frozen, slowing telegraphs. Mashing ice/fire at the same time got me through the rest of the game. Never used the other spells.

It was actually super easy once I figured out how OP ice feels. That boss feels like a litmus test to me. Your first "Do you understand mechanics?" boss. Don't know if that's intentional, but I coasted through the rest of the game after that.

Mew Game+ here I come!

Finished the first gameplay with level 101, all dungeons and quests done. Nothing hard in it, indeed just the mechanics.

Mew Game with self nerfing and harder monsters is cheowllenging though. Mostly because paws get tired of repeating same movement sequences for thousands times eventually.

@GentleBros
To devs, regarding balance: personally I think blue <horizontal> sheeps physical strength (HP) should be souped up a bit to the middle between their and <vertical> dragonkins HP, and <vertical> dragonkins HP should be nerfed down to the same point. Not only they are disbalanced (too quickly killed / too long to kill), but this disbalance also looks strangely illogical. Of course that's merely a suggestion.

The blue sheep are weak to physical attacks, so that might be why you find they have less health.
Ice wyverns are strong against physical and weak against magic. If you're the type to use physical attacks, then you will find that the ice wyverns have more health, but they melt if you use magic on them.
Alex Dec 27, 2017 @ 11:03pm
It's more like that sheep HP is low :)

I usually combine physical/magical, blasting stuff by cattrap/fire but keeping mana income steady, so can't really tell I'm 'physical' type.

For physical/magical, compared to sheep, ice wyverns stay long enough on Cattrap or when burnt by fire spell as well.
