It's horrible for a 9 lives playthrough though! I've resorted to tiptoeing near new enemies, enclosed spaces like the first fight with Dragoth are a nightmare! The chests in founders cave do 999 damage making it a challenge to get that key.

The chests will kill in one hit no matter what. You'll need to find a way to increase your attack as much as you can. Also, here's a tip: the guitar reduces your health to 1, yes, but not your defense....
Thanks! Fixing this now! :)
Can the defense points absorb more damage from an attack or is it just like a second HP bar that can increase out of combat? I was a glass canon for most of my mew lvl1 run I did. But I am trying the 9 lives + hard monsters right now. And I feel I am getting one shot (granted I'm still lvl40), by for instance the big gosts on the north east.
Also sometimes when fighting encounters we are trapped (like the first mob that gives water walking), but with all these trees it is hard to see. Maybe when you are in combat these trees around ennemies and my cat can have a really low opacity? Or is it part of the gameplay to try to dodge all that? (or does it look bad?)
Defense is a second HP bar that can replenish outside of combat. There is the box armor set that specializes in giving insane defense. It's great when paired with the Guitar during the early game.
Trees are part of the gameplay. Its hard to see in forests, so you'll want to stay away from it, or lead enemies away from them when you fight.
BTW: No idea if this is a bug, I retried this cave after this death and it worked fine, but i shadow replayed to capture that:
I feel the animation is off like 0.2ms before the trap is really off/inactive:

(just went into this cave to get the normal chest at the end, no golden key at this stage ^^)
Thanks! Let us investigate this! :)
After playing for a bit longer I’ve recalled a few instances where QoL improvements can be implemented to streamline the player’s experience.
- Buying normal items at Kits Cat would be much smoother if the player is able to open several chests at once, instead of the chore of pressing the same sequence of buttons again, and again!
- I sometimes find myself unsure where to go next. Often finding myself over leveled on a large chunk of optional quests, it would be useful if we could pan & zoom the map, or have access to a region checklist.
On a personal note the bright flash when opening chest aggravates my chronic migraines and epilepsy symptoms, even with the brightness temporarily lowered I can’t even glimpse the screen. So if you know of any method to disable it, or at least consider adding an option to do so in the future that’d be awesome. I don’t mean to impose, just putting it out there :)
Alleluia!

Stronger monsters + 9 lives. I finished with 3 lives and a lot of sweat:
https://imgur.com/a/jqTGb (btw showing how many lives are left at the end wouldn't be so bad :)
---------------
I do not think I am ready to do 3 modifiers. The only "possible one" that I can see is 9lives+stronger monsters+lvl1. Any other combination gives me chills (especially lvl1+no equipment, that seems super insane, I don't think you can kill anything with that.)
---------------
I don't think I understand exactly, but I feel I still get one shot a lot. I have to just dodge everything non stop (which is fine! I like to play it safe!). The worst place where I always die, is when you kill the 4 dragons and go to the starting point of the game, and face Drakoth (which is pretty hard already), but the worst is the moment right after when there is both a mage and a knight spawning at the same moment. The fighting area is super small, if I accidentally forget about it, I aggro both of them at the same time and I always get one shot. At the same time it is really challenging, But I definitely don't really see this fight with bad modifiers.
---------------
I also wonder about the spell that give me HP back, I don't think I ever used it (whatever normal or mew mode). Maybe if it gives a percentage back, or prevent going under 1HP or something it might be more useful. So far I never used any of the 2 healing spell, due to getting one shot almost all the time (at least on the PC version).
---------------
Another question: https://imgur.com/acf9jYg If I take the lvl1 mew modifier, can this quest ever appear? I noticed I was able to do the quest the reward the heiroom thing from the lion king after a certain level? (or did I get that wrong? Like I didn't feel it popped from scratch).
---------------
Anyway, I think adding more modifiers will make the mew mode better. Maybe one where you are timed to finish the story (like he will execute the sister after a certain amount of time?), or another one where you can only be a mage or a warrior or a samurai, etc maybe (and only get or boost these kind of armors)?
---------------
Last thing, despite the nerf of the legendaries, I still go for the 2 that are possible (no way I try the lvl200 cave with 9 lives, even with my non-mew mode, super boosted character, I die easily). While this is not a bad thing, I think the balance might be on how to upgrade other pieces (to replace these legendaries). Farming the chests that one shot you to have a chance to upgrade a random piece of gear does not appeal me that much. (which is what I was doing till I dropped to 4 lives, and decided to finish the story like that as it was too dangerous.). Maybe the blacksmith girl could help to upgrade certain pieces of gear specifically via some quests instead of gold gambling? Or buff the amount of gold these golden chests monsters are dropping (like one of them is basically a golden chest once you kill it, in gold or drops a real golden chest that you can open?)
---------------
Finally: I was thinking about when you finish your mew game, sure you get a new item, but once you get all 3, the incentive to finish another modifier or a combination doesn't seem super interesting. Maybe the amount of gold and experience you accumulated while doing the mew (finishing or dying 9 times) could be added to your normal mode? Like all the golds (even those you spent) and experience is added to the normal game at the end? Just throwing ideas
We've read the comments and have been working on improving the mode. Also, just to answer some of the questions:
- Some of the bugs, like with the R-button and cattrap timings have been fixed!
- Any further QOL improvements might only happen after the update, unfortunately!
- Getting one shot is inevitable especially with both 'Level One' and 'Tougher Enemies'. The best you can do is wear armor with lots of HP or def. The Freezepaw spell is very important.
- We're working on making that Drakoth encounter easier given the limited space, thanks! :)
- No quest is ever locked behind a level. However, some quests only unlock after certain parts of the story, or if another quest has been completed.
- We're thinking of increasing the gold you earn when you have 'Level One' on. This way you can use the gold to upgrade spells or get new armor, which should even the odds.
- The Old Master armor can be continuously upgraded, and it will stay with you in the normal game. If you manage to get the Old Master armors up to Lv99, your power will be immense.
- What if, perhaps, you get a certain exp/gold reward for every modifier you complete mew game with. This exp/gold gets added to the normal game.
Again, thanks for all the feedback! We're always reading this discussion, and your help is definitely making the game better! :)
How do we upgrade Old Master Set? By continuously playing the Mew Game to earn the reward multiple times?
