PS For the latter search for Industrial Modifier.
And how to mod research?
In terms of research, the effect it would have would be to speed up (or slow down, depending on what you do) the speed of research. But that's not a problem, as the % increment per turn is moddable, so if it gets too fast, slow it down until the speed feels more appropriate.
Income might need to be amended too, but only testing this out could really inform to what extent and how.
What I would suggest overall would be to change the turn length to whatever you're thinking of, and then cycle through some turns in Hotseat mode to get a feel for which events might need changing.
You only need to do this for Majors, as Minors do not conduct their own research.
The disabled button prevents that unit type from being able to upgrade with this research category.
This is because all unit types can in principle be allowed 3 upgrade categories, but 3 categories aren't necessarily required for all unit types.
That suggests that it still thinks the maximum for that country and unit type is 3.
I would go back to Campaign -> Edit Country Data -> Edit Research -> Advanced -> Upgrades and double check it for the nation and unit type in question.
I assume that you are also definitely opening up your modified campaign when testing it, you should have had to give it a new name when first saving it?
