How do I make lighting as if it were a window?
When I go onto portal and place it on a wall it has the texture of a door which is great for, ofcourse, lighting under a door etc. I thought that the empty texture would keep the wall in tact but keep the lighting to make it seem as if there were a window (but you can't see it as it is top down). However, all that does is remove the wall and let light in.

In the video on how to use dps2 it showed him letting in light to the building without getting rid of a section of the wall and all I'm wondering is how to do that?

tldr; there doesn't seem to be a way at this point because the program has changed from the tutorial video.

So the current version of DPS2 (beta) looks like it's a bit different from the video tutorial because we now select two options instead of one: Top and Front. The Front is the same as the tutorial, but the Top is the part that gives us the problem.

This isn't going to be the best answer, but you can go into the assets and modify one of the current "Tops" to look like whatever wall texture you want. Or, go grab a wall texture and drop it into the portal folder (you have to restart DPS in order for it to register the new textures). <--- I just tried moving a wall texture over, and it works, buuuuut it keeps the original colour AND it resizes the texture so it doesn't match the rest of the wall. Ergo, the brown brick "wall" texture I used stands out when used as a door texture.

If you go with a flat colour (ie, straight up "blue) rather than trying to texturize it then that should work, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having options for textures available. <--- okay, I just tried *that* and because the floor walls have a tint that can't be turned off, it still looks obvious unless you manage to match the tint to the colour really really well.
