It is perfect for battlemaps - though one of the two tools are a bit "quirky" and require an adjustment to the way you would normally think to draw maps.

One of the big bonuses is the additional assets you can download from the workshop - there is literally gigs of assets/textures/objects you can add and use.

Additionally you can use DPS to create other maps such as world maps - but there are other programs that are easier to use and can produce better results (in my opinion).

Look at a few of the youtube videos to get a feel on how to use the application, also look at ta few of the maps that have been created.

You can always try it and refund it using the steam returns policy if it is not for you.

This. All of my this.
Personally, just having started as a 5E DM, I find that this software, in the words of another man, 'works, it just works'. In all, non joking honesty, the software is solid, the mod textures and objects are nice, and it can export to be used on things like Roll20, or, as previously stated, printed out for face to face. I use it for Roll20, and it's done wonders to liven the game.

Okay I'm going to say right now in case anyone else is thinking of getting this software. This program is freaking awesome. It was exactly what I was looking for in a map maker I made this map for my star wars campaign. https://imgur.com/gallery/jUYtoVo

I highly recommend this software for map making! I have two tiny gripes. It would be really nice to have the tool bars on my second screen and the map on the primary screen. It would also be nice to be able to open multiple maps so you can copy and paste quickly. (You can still copy from one map and paste to another. You just need to close the map you're coping from and open the destination map. Make sure to save before closing maps!!)

Is it worth the money? IMO: Yes. the bang for buck can't be beat. You can create great looking battle maps quickly.

However: This isn't the most intuitive application to use and that's perhaps it's weakest point. Getting beyond simple drag drop of sprites takes a bit of exploration.

There's an amazing depth of artwork than can be activated. Suggest picking a few that meet your style and don't go too far beyond that.

I think it's absolutely worth the money, but it is a bit cumbersome to use. The results can be very nice, however.

I would also recommend Illwinter Floorplan Generator (on Steam) as another tool that can knock out a passable map in less than 10 minutes.

I agree - DPS can be a bit clunky at times, but with a bit of practice you do get used to it.

I tried Illwinter Floorplan Generator some time ago and it was functional. It has since undergone numerous versions since I tried it - I found it easy to use but not quite what I wanted - others may have better experiences. It is also certainly a lot cheaper than DPS.

To be the odd man out here, if you run DnD at your home with everyone physically present, I'd say you're better off sticking to pen and paper to create your dungeons. The program is simply unfinished and poorly designed. Creating single battlemaps is okay, but designing even small dungeons (which the program is named after, mind you) is maddeningly arduous and clunky.

The software is ok, the problem is the dev - no updates and news and it's still Early Access - which means it won't leave EA and won't be developed any longer. There used to be forums on the pyromancers.com page where you could ask directly questions to dev, now it only leads to Steam forums. Overall, dev took money and told us to f### off. It's still not bad product, but if I'd be asked if I want to support developers who act this way I would say no.

I am a newer DM, longtime player. Running with newer players and the maps help them a lot. I use an app on my ipad 'MapKeeper' which allows me to only revel parts of the map that the players would be able to see. I hook up the ipad to a bigscreen tv via vga cable connection. It works amazing well

Absolutely- it's useful and versatile! You can also add your own textures very easily, and import ones from Roll20 too!

I use it to create battlemaps for the Adventures League content when they're black and white maps just don't cut it.

If you download the right add-ons and install them you can make very nice battlemaps. If you really want to take your time, you can make 3 dimensional battlemaps.

It can be time consuming if that is what you want it to be. You can also bang out a serviceable map in a matter of minutes if all you need is some specific terrain features and something to slap a grid on.

I think it's worth the money if you like having a better than average map to show on your VTT.
