Lets see your questions.....
(1) Not sure if you are aware, but DPS will not always export the entire map as some objects may not be picked up on the export window.
The way I resolve this is to draw "brackets" to create a window to show where you want to export. I use lines to create 90 degree bracket - place these on a single layer as a frame.
I then go into the export window and drag the two green squares (NW & SE) to fit in the brackets (you may have missed these as it would be easy to miss) to fit into the brackets.
Next I cancel the export - continue drawing. When ready to export I hide the frame layer and then do the export. You will now have just the area in the frame exported.
This gives you the advantage of drawing outside of the export window to ensure the image fills the area you want.
(2) Yup - I have witnessed this weird effect and agree with you. Only way is to export a smaller image and use that (painful/time consuming to do) or to manipulate each object in turn (just as bad).
(3) Not experienced this issue my self - though I tend to run with only a few mods and others I create myself for personal use. It would be great to have an independent tool to manage mods, this would allow others with less technical experience to create their own mods.
On a side note - I do have a Discord channel for general use. https://discord.gg/nVtPk3f
There is an example on there that show map layers, especially the framing in (1) above.
This is just for folks looking for an easy solution. I just tested it with an image and it works.
