Simple question: Can I use what I create for commercial use?
Am I allowed to do that? Or is thata no-no. Or do I need to buy a commercial license like some other map making software on steam requires?

Yes, you may use your maps without any restrictions.
[Amendment] I mean the maps created with tilesets included in DPS.
Please do not use tilesets from the workshop for commercial purposes, unless you get permission from the author.

*As long as you're only using the resources that come with the program.

Or you paint custom tiles yourself.

Or you come to an arrangement with the artist...

... and take all necessary precautions to legally protect both of you (artist included) from disagreements, miscommunications and misinterpretations later on.

At the time of posting - tpd83, Saleen the God, Tinkilechat and Dragon Tein ALL HAVE items belonging to myself and all items are NON COMERCIAL unless I am contacted or credited. My items generally have the "ae" suffix.
I also belive many others that have created what you have posted feel the same way.
Thank you for your attention.

aegean, I added an amendment to my first answer to clarify the situation.

None of your posts I've seen on Dundjinni nor the zips have any sort of licensing information on them. You released them freely to the public with the reasonable expectation that they would be circulated and used. You do not stipulate any limitation on any of the Dundjinni posts I have read, you really have no recourse if someone did use your content commercially. You had three months from the date of publication to register copyrights on your works, btw.

Likewise, you cannot now go back and retroactively demand people are required to attribute the work to you. It was not stipulated at the time of publication or at the time of download of the files.

If you cared so much about your artwork, you would have taken the proper steps to protect your work...

In the US one does not have to register anything to receive the copyright to ones own work. Simply by creating the work, that person owns the copyright.

Actually, yes and no. Yes, you automatically receive a copyright to your intellectual propertty. HOWEVER, you have a set amount of time from the publication of that work to actual register your copyright. Failure to register said copyright means that in the case of litigation, you are only entitled to _real_ damages, i.e a demonstrable loss of money. If you register the copyright, you are entitled to money outside of damages including punitive fines.

As his product was published freely and distributed readily upon the internet, any lawsuit he attempts to bring in the United States will result in a big fat nothing burger. $0. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Not only did he distribute it onto a public forum with no license stipulations, he did so freely and of his own volition and asked for no money. Ergo, there are no damages. He loses nothing from other people using his work because it was never commercialized to begin with.

I just installed DPS. The app comes with several collections, some are named Jolly's Atlas, Taboo Tech, and so on. How do I know which are "from the Workshop"? As far as I know, they're all "included in DPS".

Workshop content must be installed manually, so all the tilesets you see after installation are native.

Hi Pyro - thanks for this.
Am planning to use for a commercial product - is the license written down anywhere? Need to copy it into a legalese appendum to my product.

I intend to buy, but I just need some confirmations. I know it was already said, but I feel like I need to ask again with clear words :).

If I buy, I am allowed to use the Dungeon Painter Studio to create a program for commercial uses (like games) and I will have all rights with my creations.
I can use all imagens inside the program, that come with instalation(native), for create the program cited above. I can create my own images for this use too.
I am NOT allowed to use the imagens from workshop(from steam), without the right from the owner of images for create the program cited above.
Just some clarifications.

Is that right?

Thanks!
