Is this game Pay to win?

Yes.

You spend money to get a better chance at the more powerful cards. But you can enjoy the game without having to spend anything on it. Just takes longer (and more luck) to get to the top.

Even knowing I still play this game with my wife and I feel that any game worth anything should have something spent for it, I am just so tired of 'Freemium' games. I can get onto the whole, pay a bit if you like the idea of the game but after playing this game and Spiral Knights before it, the entire Freemium game system is just truly messed up.

Lets just make every little thing about giving more, and more, and yet more money. You like a card, spend $15 to get it twice fused. You like your new Athletic deck that you spent $40 to make, well that's too bad as we are now doing "Drunk" and your cards are now subpar.

Now you can upgrade your new cards by using the Gigs from recycling your old ones but we won't tell you that what you spent money on will come back into fashion in a few months and you wasted your money on recycling them. Oh, and we forgot to tell you that all of your cards will become outclassed with the new "Athletic" set in a few months anyways though. It will still work, but maybe 85% of what it used to be for your few $100 in getting it.

---------------------------

To be honest, and I need to admit to spending around $80 total on this game and I have spent the last 6 odd months playing it. I find it more fun to compete with my wife than to just sit and play the game out of boredom and the 500 odd hours spent on the game weren't wasted. (What else can you really do when your toddler is asleep and you only have a few minutes here or there to play a game before he wakes up or whatnot?)

The way I would view this game is to do what we did and find it "OKAY" to not compete...to not "HAVE TO" compete for the top spots but mostly, be happy with it. My wife and I are there and even knowing our guild is within the top 100 and we are among the best in our guild, we still haven't had our first Mythic Rare card yet and we still only win in the arena around 2 out of every 3 of the matches. But as we are the best in our group and our guild does win more than we loose, I can be happy with that....screw Drunk and Music though, I am so happy that Discuise is coming back as that is around when I started and I don't have to craft again for a set.

-------------------------
Some tips though,
1. Focus first on Character cards, Events come and go but the character cards you can use in every deck. I would much rather have a quad fused Philip J Fry or Bender over a Legendary quad fused event card anyday.
2. Don't ever trade the Event cards you use, ever. Keep them as they will come back into fashion and you will want to use them again eventually. If worst comes to worst, some Sieges will focus on the very event and you can help your team there.
3. Stock epics aren't bad, even after all of this time, I still use them and they were worth Onixing the "Adventure Mode" to get.
4. Since I have yet to see this ANYWHERE and it wasn't until I did research to find this out but a quad fused Epic, even a Stock Epic that has been 4xed is a bit better than an upgraded but unfused Legendary card.
5. Go to https://cartoon-battle.cards/cards?all-of-the-above,epic,legendary and research your deck first. Try to get the Event cards that MATCH as many characters from your deck as possible. That way, you aren't drawing dead nearly as much and combining cards will save you far more than not.
6. If your deck is breaking even during a dual, throw down the strongest UNCOMBINED card that you can and just do that each and every time. If those cards survive, odds are you are farther than they are by a card or three and THOSE newly placed cards will win the match for you. To just combine and watch die cards may win but a few cards to just hold the line while the end of your 'line' does the damage does help. My wife taught me that one.

7. And lastly, ALWAYS, and I mean this, always combine and level your cards to the max before you use them. Combine them with as many of the characters in your deck and level the card up to the highest that you can do it (for instance, all the way up until you have to fuse but can't as you only have one of the cards and not two is fine, I often do that but at least get it to the highest level possible by spending your Gigs to get it.) NEVER play even a Mythic Rare card without a combo possibility and wihout it leveled up first. It doesn't matter if you just got your Mythic when your deck is mostly Green and Blues, level the Mythic first and combine it with SOMETHING that you use, it only takes a day or two but trust me on this.

----------------------------------

You can have fun with this game as we do at home. Just don't spend the $100s on this game like the elites do but also don't care about them or their scores. I find that having a relationship in real life beats the $hit about how my deck fights and that is fine by the few losses that I lose each day. Just be happy with winning more than you lose as I am.

"us free folk"
I'm dead

...that was helpful and fully worthy of our time in reading it. Thanks for that.
I think this game strikes a very good balance betwen f2p and pay to win. Sure if you buy a lot of stuff you will get ahead a lot faster, but you will do fine just by playing consistantly long term.
from the f2p games I tried this one looks the most p2w this far. The power curve is extremely steep both on cards and on hero powers. Buying in into just few blue cards or hero levels is auto-win over thos ewho just live from what drops.

On the bright side, it looks to provide plenty of hours of fun for those not addicted to winning and patient enough to play in small bits not minding to lose here and there.

I agree as well. I have TWO Mythics, both Mythic Bob (the common Mythic Rare) and I just got a Mythic Stan. I'm a little annoyed that he is stuck on lvl 1 but still though, Mythic Stan Equipped for spending less than $100.

Come on, this isn't "Spiral Knights", it isn't that bad.
After 95 hrs in deck is all Epiced out everything all maxed and fused that I can 200 away from my first Mystic the answer is NO and those who say yes are in patient I have not spent one Dime I save all my points do all my dailies

The game has about 100 epics, you say you have them all and managed to research their over 200 combos too? And to max them you managed 4 copies and 2x244+470 gw times a hundred?

No and why would anyone pay so much to get those. But I have a deck that is among the best that I have seen and I have at least four different quad fused Legendary cards with two Mythic Rares added in and I have spent less than $100 for a game that has lasted a year so far and I have only around 423 total hours played at this time.

No, I don't think that the game is "Pay to Win"... but without a doubt, it is a heavily "Win More" type of game though..for instance, you don't get stuff equally for playing equal times, but you need to have good stuff to get slightly better stuff and on and on. Good luck getting a Legendary/Epic (Burgandy or Blue) based deck within two months. ..and just forget about the Mythics for anything lower than a year's worth of time.

"Pay To Win. when you are paying for advantage which normal players don't have access to unless they either pay too or will have to grind very long (weeks and months)."

Just one example: by coughing up $10 one can accelerate research 6-fold. Let's not even mention things like you can direct-buy 4xlegendary Bill.

Never got why people are obsessed with whitewashing.

To be fair and I need to state that I am getting paid nothing for this and that I am not part of this game, other than just a player. But with that being said, what the hell is wrong with starting off with White and slowly getting your first Green even? I went through that and I didn't pay a bunch to do that. In fact, in all and this is over six months of playing a game that my wife and I enjoy playing, I have a full Legendary/Epic based deck for less than $100 USD.

What is wrong with paying 'something' for something you enjoy doing. I am willing to 'bet the farm' that you do far stupider things with the same $100. Do you smoke, gamble, or party. I think the SOLE $100 I spent here beats the sh*t out of those stupid things to do. And get this, I still will have my deck tomorrow as well.

Also, if the game just flat out gave away the Mythic and Legendary cards with so much as grinding your butt off for them, they people would have left a LONG time ago instead of just playing casually now like we do.

----------------------------

But let me ask you something, what is wrong wtih paying to enjoy an activity that you enjoy. Isn't the developers for the game worth having anything? Should we all pretend that we are the United States congress and expect everything for free? Everythign worth having takes work and work needs to be paid for and if you are 100% FTP only on everythign, enjoy the white/green deck until far later on and even then, my 'pay a little' deck will kick the $hit out of it.

For the record, I didn't say anything wrong about anything.

The topic's question is not whether this game is fun. Or if it is playable without paying. Or if using gray/green is feasible. The question is whether it is P2W.

Just because it clearly is should not stop you dropping $100 at it, or someone else to tag along for free. But denying the simple facts that you can buy in tremendous progress is IMHO not really nice.

Thats fine and if I offended, I didn't mean to. I guess I should proofread before sending in the future and for that, I apologise.
